JV girls basketball team enters final week at .500 mark
The Galesburg-Augusta girls JV basketball team entered the final week of play with an 8-8 record after the team suffered a 42-36 loss to Gobles February 22 on the road and defeated Coloma 33-21 February 19.
Individual leaders were not available from the Gobles game.
In the win over Coloma, Hailee Themins enjoyed a strong game with 12 points and Caitlyn Valadez contributed five points.
G-A coach Dontrell Bowden felt the game against Coloma was a great team win, noting, “the girls played great and aggressive defense.”
After a road game at Plainwell February 27, the JVs closed the season with a home game against Battle Creek St. Philip February 29.

The Galesburg-Augusta boys JV basketball team finished the season with an impressive 18-1 record after the team closed the season with two victories.
G-A defeated Gobles 65-29 February 23 and clipped Allegan February 19.
In the win over Gobles, Hayden Pritchard scored 21 points and Anakin Jordan pitched in with 19 points.
Giovonni Evans led the team in scoring in the win over Allegan with 17 points and Hayden Pritchard contributed 16 points.
G-A defeated Gobles 65-29 February 23 and clipped Allegan February 19.

2nd straight SAC Central Division title
The Galesburg-Augusta boys basketball team won the SAC Central Division championship for the second straight year with a 63-40 win over Gobles February 23 at G-A High School.
G-A, 15-5 entering district tournament play, enjoyed a strong offensive effort in the middle two quarters and solid defense in the third and fourth quarters to prevent Gobles from coming back.

The Rams trailed by a 14-12 count after one quarter but enjoyed their biggest offensive quarter in the second frame by outscoring the visitors 21-13 for a 33-27 lead at the break.
G-A held Gobles to just four free throws and a basket in the third quarter and took a 52-33 advantage into the fourth quarter.
Jeremiah Mann, who dropped in five three-point baskets, whipped in 22 points to go with five assists to pace G-A. Ethan Gibson and Ethan Thomas each added nine points.

G-A alive in district play
The Galesburg-Augusta boys varsity basketball team moved into the district semifinal game with a 74-59 win over Comstock Monday at Schoolcraft.
The 16-5 Rams played Schoolcraft Wednesday in the district semifinal game at Schoolcraft (log onto the Climax Crescent Facebook page for final score). Hackett and Kalamazoo Christian played in the other semifinal game and the district championship game is scheduled for March 1 at 7 p.m. at Schoolcraft.
Balanced scoring helped the Rams to the win, as three players reached double figures in scoring.
Jeremiah Mann scored seven points in the first quarter, helping the Rams to a 20-11 lead after one.
Six points from Tegan Lockmiller and five from John Klimp in the second quarter, helped G-A extend the lead to 35-23 at halftime
Led by John Klimp’s 12 points in the second half, G-A outscored Comstock 39-36 over the final two quarters.
Klimp enjoyed a hot shooting night from two-point range, knocking down 9-of-12 attempts on the way to a team high 19 points. He added eight rebounds.
Jeremiah Mann pitched in with 15 points and Tegan Lockmiller added 10 points.
G-A enjoyed a warm shooting night from the floor, making 50 percent (29-58) of its two-point attempts. The Rams also enjoyed good ball distribution, totaling 16 assists, led by Ethan Gibson’s seven helpers,

Tigers too tough for Rams

The Lady Rams got off to a good start in Gobles February 23, but the Tigers came back to secure a 60-41 win at Gobles.
After the host Tigers scored the game’s first basket G-A went on a 9-0 run with Jaidyn Klimp hitting a pair of free throws and two breakaway layups . A Lili Thompson three pointer. was also part of the run.
Three pointers from Rhyann Wilson and Mya Erskin gave the Rams a 17-15 first quarter lead.
After a short jumper by Thompson put the Rams up 19-15 the Tigers went on a 12-0 run for a 27 to 19 lead. A Grace Gibson free throw ended the run but Gobles responded with another run of ten points to end the half leading 37-20.
The third quarter featured two more runs by the Tigers. They started the second half with a five point run stopped by a long jumper by Maureen McBride. Gobles finished the period scoring the next ten points. Gibson and Klimp baskets in the final minute for G-A brought reduced the G-A deficit to 52-27.
G-A finished the game with a strong fourth quarter. McBride hit a pair of three’s and a free throw, Klimp added a pair of buckets in the paint, Thompson made a short jumper and Ellesa Callender added a free throw. It wasn’t enough however as the Rams’ record would fall to 7-13 with the 60-41 loss.
Jaidyn Klimp was hampered by foul trouble early in the game but still led the Lady Rams with 14 points, 11 rebounds, 5 assists, 3 steals and 3 blocked shots. Maureen McBride scored 9 points and Lili Thompson added 7.

Rams get back in win colum

After their one point loss to Martin February 16, the Lady Rams needed a quick turnaround. G-A found that turnaround in a big way.
The Coloma Comets came to G-A for a make up game on February 19 when the home team outscored Coloma in every quarter in route to a 58-20 win.
The first quarter featured three free throws from Jaidyn Klimp, another from Maureen McBride, three in close baskets from Klimp and a three pointer from Lili Thompson as the Rams rushed out to a 13-1 lead.
G-A added to its lead in the second period with baskets by Holley Coburn, Addison Born, Lili Thompson, and three more from Klimp. Two free throws from McBride and Brooklyn James were also contributors. The Comets scored eight points but the Rams held a comfortable lead of 29-9 at halftime.
G-A Coach Lindsey Newton was pleased with the first half teamwork as the Rams enjoyed assists on seven of their ten baskets. She pointed out the girls were doing a much better job of handling the ball as they committed just seven turnovers.
Klimp scored four times in the third quarter on her way to a 25 point night. Grace Gibson had the other basket as G-A’s lead stood at 39 -11 after three quarters.
The fourth period featured three inside baskets and a three pointer for Lili Thompson and a pair of threes from Gibson. Coloma (2-17) had its best quarter, scoring nine points.
Klimp lead the Rams with 25 points, 13 rebounds, 3 assists, 3 steals and 5 blocked shots. Lili Thompson had a strong night with 15 points and 5 rebounds. Grace Gibson, playing her first game since being sidelined by illness, scored 9 points to go with 10 rebounds and 3 steals.
The Rams shot 35 percent from two point range and 67 percent (4-6) from three point range.
