Lady Panthers take momentum into districts, defeat Burr Oak

By Bruce Rolfe

After falling short against SCAA East Division champions Pittsford February 27, the Climax-Scotts girls varsity basketball team finished the regular season on a positive note with a 46-30 win over Burr Oak at C-S Jr./Sr. High School March 1.

C-S took a 14-6 overall record into the district tournament semifinal game March 6 at 5:30 p.m. against the winner of the Calhoun Christian-Bellevue game that was played March 4.

The first half against Burr Oak was close, with C-S leading 9-7 after one quarter and 17-15 at halftime. But the Lady Panthers held the visitors to just two free throws in the third quarter while marching out to a 32-17 lead after three quarters.

Burr Oak attempted to get back into the game with its best offensive quarter, however C-S responded with its top offensive quarter as well to secure the win.

Addy Reeves had a double-double, scoring 16 points on 7-for-13 shooting from two-point range while adding 12 rebounds. Holly Talbert, who was 5-for-11 from two-point range, pitched in with 11 points and three assists. Sophie Braithwaite added eight points.

If the Lady Panthers prevail in the district semifinal, C-S will face the winner of the Battle Creek St. Phil-Battle Creek Academy semifinal game in the district championship game March 7 at 7 p.m. at St. Phil.  Log onto the Climax Crescent Facebook page for a final score.
