Mitchell Vosburg, a 2013 graduate of Climax-Scotts High School and current Sports Editor at The Daily Press in Escanaba, was recognized in four categories in the 2023 Michigan Press Association’s Better Newspaper Contest while he worked as a sports writer at the Manistee-News Advocate.
Vosburg placed first in the Sports Column category for his piece titled “Manistee Catholic Central football season anything but a failure”.
He placed second in the News Enterprise category for his in-depth look at the high school referee shortage.
He earned two third place finishes, one in the Sports Photo category for a photo titled “Sticking the Landing” and another in the Sports Writing category for his article titled “Manistee Catholic Central, Special Olympics forge bond through basketball.”
Vosburg’s “Bear Lake’s Selfless Servant” article, which was the first of a three part series, was honorable mention in the sports feature category.
