Wendy Somers will be retiring in June
After Galesburg-Augusta Superintendent Wendy Somers announced recently she will be retiring in June, the G-A Board of Education quickly started the process to hire a new superintendent, moving one step closer at a special board meeting March 21.
After listening to presentations from three superintendent search firms, the G-A Board of Education selected Chris Rice at the West Michigan Education Research & Development Foundation.
The board also listened to presentations from Michigan Association of School Boards and the Michigan Leadership Institute.
G-A School Board President Jessica Eberstein said the Superintendent Search Timeline will be adopted at the April 15 regularly scheduled school board meeting. This will include the timeline, profile and posting.
The G-A School Board President adds before the April 15 meeting there will be an online survey for community input along with stakeholder input sessions.
In another Board of Education move, the board appointed Sarah Davidson to an open seat that was created when Diana Walker resigned.
Walker received the Above and Beyond Award at the March 18 board meeting for her service, hard work and dedication.
