C-S graduate turning hobby of making baseball bats
into business venture

A 1993 Climax-Scotts High School graduate is combining a love for baseball, graphic arts and working with wood into a small business venture that continues to grow.

Travis Wade, the son of Jim and Lou Wade, of Climax, started making baseball bats on a wood lathe at his parents’ home as a hobby during a minor league baseball career that spanned 12 seasons.

The hobby continued after his career ended in 2009 and has blossomed into a small business for the C-S graduate, who is selling his bats to travel league baseball teams, indoor hitting facilities across the country and individual players under his company’s name of Wade Made.

Thanks to the diligent work of Mike Elwell surfing the net and leg work of former Climax-Scotts varsity baseball coach Robert Weessies, the Climax Crescent has learned that the baseball program is well represented in the Michigan High School Baseball Record Book.

The record book notes that Jesse Eyre’s three home runs against White Pigeon in 1998 tops the list for home runs in a game.

C-S is also well represented in the career walks category, with Weessies’ 82 walks from 1995-1998 ranking him sixth, and Stuck’s 75 walks (1995-1998) placing him seventh. School board invited to talk over consolidation

The following article was taken from the March 24 issue of the Galesburg Argus.

Invitations to School Boards from Augusta and the Scotts-Climax schools were sent out last Saturday inviting these organizations with their respective building committees to attend a meeting at Galesburg concerning a large consolidated school centrally located between all towns. Tentative date for the meeting is Monday, March 28 at the Galesburg high school. No official word has been received from either School Board yet, and the date of the meeting might be changed if all parties concerned don’t find it convenient. However, replies to the invitations are expected.

This action on the part of the Galesburg; Rural Agricultural School Board is the result of a motion made at the public school meeting called on Monday, March 14, to consider enlarging local school facilities. No action was taken on school enlargement but the following motion was made by the group at the public meeting: “This group requests the local School Board and building committee to invite the School Boards and building committees of the Scotts-Climax school combination and Augusta school to meet with the local board to consult on consolidation and locating a high school outside of Galesburg in a geographically central location between all schools.”

Electric light news in village

There has been installed at the Crescent Office an entrance Switch and ground wire of approved style and anyone who cares to look it over is invited to call.

We also have a blue print of the layout of the distribution in the village showing approximately where the poles will come which will be a benefit in planning a convenient entrance.

Some contractors might come into Climax, look over your wiring, tell yon that a lot of changes would be necessary, with a selfish motive in view in order to get work.

We are not saying that they are doing this, but we would like to have the citizens know when they are having some changes made whether it is necessary and required for safety or whether the change is being made for appearance and convenience.

The requirements for wiring are just the same now as it was stated before we cast our vote for electric service, a house properly wired for the other current is alright now with the exception of the entrance switch and ground, but the trouble why some houses need some changes is because it was not wired properly to begin with and that an inspection has never been made. Now Inspector Bersey of the Michigan Inspection Bureau states that he will not follow rigidly to the code rules, but will take into consideration, conditions as they exist and the safeguarding of life and property.

School Notes
