Newly appointed Charleston Township Clerk Alese LePert just started her new position April 1, but the new township clerk has already soaked up as much knowledge as possible from recently retired Charleston Township Clerk Linda Kramer and is looking forward to her new role.

The Charleston Township Board approved the appointment at its regular meeting March 26.

Kramer retired as the Township clerk after nearly 25 years of service.

LePert has been training with Kramer for a number of weeks and does have some knowledge about the position, especially elections, which made Kramer feel LePert would be a good fit for the position. The recently retired Charleston Township clerk alerted LePert that the position was going to become vacant, and LePert embraced the idea.

LePert feels her knowledge and experience with elections will come in useful, but understands there is still lots to learn, as clerks handle many other responsibilities.

The new Charleston Township clerk said she is aware new requirements from the state place more demands on clerks, but she is eager to learn and ready to take on any new challenges.

She said the transition has gone well and enjoys her new job.

“I love the people I work with so that’s made it a very easy transition,” she said.

Charleston Township Supervisor Jerry Vander Roest feels LePert is a good selection and seems to be making a smooth transition into her new job.

“She’s good at the computer. She knows the election stuff. She has that background. There’s a lot of learning there,” said the Charleston Township supervisor.

LePert and her husband have two children, 11 years old and 5 years old.

LePert enjoys golfing, gardening, and being her kids’ number one sports fan.
