Lady Rams begin season with 2 wins
The Galesburg-Augusta varsity softball team racked up double figure hit totals in both games of a doubleheader sweep over Comstock April 5 and totaled 56 stolen bases.
G-A stole 31 bases and pounded out 15 hits in a 23-8 win in the first game and added 18 hits and 25 stolen bases in a 19-8 win in the second game.
After falling behind 3-0 in the top of the first inning, G-A responded with an 11-run bottom of the first and never trailed the rest of the way.
Breanna Keene had three hits including a double and drove in three runs to lead G-A in the first game.
Caitlyn Valadez stole six bases and Suzanne Nichols, Breanna Keene, Rhyann Wilson and Mareen McBride each added four swipes.
McBride pitched all three innings and gave up nine hits and four walks togo with four strikeouts for the win on the mound.
The Rams also fell behind early in the second game but once again a big inning propelled the team to a win.
Comstock enjoyed a 3-2 lead after one inning and 5-2 entering the bottom of the second inning but a 10-run second frame put G-A in front for good.
McBride hit for the cycle. finishing with five hits and three RBI. Rhyann Wilson, who had a double, added four hits.
Kiya Dolph stole six bases and Valadez had five steals.
McBride earned the win in relief of starting pitcher Liliann Thompson. McBride pitched the final three and one-thirds innings and gave up just three hits and one walk with three strikeouts.
G-A’s scheduled doubleheader at Mendon April 3 was postponed and is scheduled to be made up April 15 at Mendon at 4:30 p.m.

G-A baseball team gets off to strong start
Galesburg-Augusta varsity baseball coach Tim Prince received strong pitching from three pitchers, helping the Rams to a pair of wins over Comstock in season opening action April 5 at G-A High School.
Ethan Gibson three a three-inning not hitter in a 15-0 win in the first game and then Alex Krugh and Nolan Brewer combined on a two-hit 10-0, six inning win in the second game.
Krugh got off to a perfect start at the plate in the twinbill, totaling seven hits in seven at bats including one double and two RBIs.
Gibson struck out seven Colts in the opener and did not allow a walk, throwing 25 of his 33 pitches for strikes.
Alex Krugh provided three hits and drove in two runs and J. Martin lashed out two hits including a double and drove in three runs to lead G-A at the plate in the first game.
Krugh pitched the first three innings in the second game to earn the win. He allowed just one hit, walked three and struck out six.
Brewer finished with one-hit ball across three innings, striking out five and walking one batter.
Krugh had a big game at the plate, pounding out four hits including a double and Brewer added two hits and two RBI.
