Lady Panthers searching for consistency

The Climax-Scotts varsity softball team enjoyed a season high 16 hits in the first game of a doubleheader, helping the team to a 13-3 win over Kalamazoo Loy Norris April 18 at C-S Jr./Sr. High School.

Loy Norrix won the second game 25-8.

Four hits including a three-run inside the park home run by Holly Talbert (four RBI) in the bottom of the fourth inning that pushed C-S’ lead to 7-3, led the Panthers at the plate.

Addy Reeves pitched a strong game to earn the win. She allowed just one earned run, five hits and four walks to go with five strikeouts in five innings pitched.

The Lady Panthers, now 2-5, reached double digit hit totals in the second game but Loy Norrix pounded out 14 hits and scored in each inning.

Hailey Talbert, who knocked in five runs, had three hits for C-S.

Holly Talbert was the losing pitcher.

Defensive miscues, walks both factors in 16-13 loss


While the Climax-Scotts varsity softball team outhit Colon 13-8, defensive miscues and control issues on the mount led to a 16-13 win for Colon April 18 at Colon.

Two C-S pitchers struggled with control issues, combining for 13 walks, four wild pitches and three hit batters. C-S also struggled in the field, committing seven errors, which led to seven unearned runs.

Holly Talbert, who had a double and two RBI, and Makenzie Grimm, who had one RBI and two stolen bases, each had three hits to pace C-S at the plate.

The losing pitcher was Holly Talbert, who allowed seven earned runs, eight hits and nine walks in four innings.

Lady Panthers drop 1 to Athens, 2nd game suspended


The Climax-Scotts varsity softball team dropped a 12-1 decision to Athens in the first game of a doubleheader and trailed 14-11 in the top of the fourth inning before the game was suspended because of darkness.

The two teams will complete the second game when C-S visits Athens May 2.

Athens started strong in the first game, scoring four runs in the first and second innings of a five-inning win.

C-S managed just one hit, a fifth inning single by Rylie Altman.

Addy Reeves pitched all five innings and suffered the loss. She allowed eight hits, 12 earned runs, walked 16 batters and struck out six.

Athens came from behind to score four runs in the fourth inning in the second game, moving in front 14-11 when the game was suspended.

Rylee Altman, who had two RBI, and Addie Dzwik, who drove in one run, each had two hits to pace C-S at the plate before the game was suspended.

Holly Talbert (nine earned runs, five hits, 13 walks and one strikeout) pitched the first three innings before umpires stopped play.

Late rally falls short for Lady Panthers; rebound to win game 2


After falling short with a seventh inning rally in a 14-13 loss in the first game of a doubleheader against Howardsville Christian, the Climax-Scotts varsity softball team responded with a convincing 17-2 win in the second game April 15 at C-S Jr./Sr. High School.

Addy Reeves allowed one hit and no earned runs through three innings to pick up the win in the second game. She walked one and struck out five.

Addi Dzwik, who had a double and one RBI and Lylah Parrish, who had a double and two RBI, each collected two hits.

C-S trailed Howardsville Christian by a 14-10 count entering the bottom of the seventh inning in the first game but pushed three runs across in the frame and had the bases loaded, before falling short.

Holly Talbert, who had three RBI and three stolen bases, Hailey Talbert, who had a double and two RBI and Makenzie Grimm, who had one RBI and two stolen bases, led C-S with two hits apiece.

Holly Talbert suffered the loss on the mound, allowing 15 hits and nine walks with seven strikeouts.
