Five straight wins for C-S baseball team

A doubleheader sweep over White Pigeon April 27 sent the Climax-Scotts varsity baseball team into action April 30 against Burr Oak with a 10-3 record and a five-game winning streak.

C-S coach Kevin Langs enjoyed strong pitching and a potent hitting attack in both games.

Starting and winning pitcher Logan Gilbert (two hits, one earned run, no walks and three strikeouts in two innings) and reliever Carter Dzwik (no hits, no earned runs, two walks, two strikeouts in one inning) combined on a two-hitter in the first game C-S won 17-2 in four innings.

Ben Crocker, who drove in five runs, Gilbert, who had one RBI and Ben Nelson, who had one RBI, each had two hits to lead the Panther 10-hit attack.

Ben Crocker and Ben Nelson teamed up for a three-inning no-hitter in the second game and their teammates pounded out 11 hits in C-S’ 17-1 win in the second game.

Crocker pitched the first two innings and allowed four walks with two strikeouts for the win and Nelson followed with a hitless third inning, finishing with one strikeout and no walks.

Gavin Eyre, who had one RBI, and Crocker, who had two RBI, collected two hits apiece.

C-S limits Heritage Christian to 2 hits in win

Climax-Scotts took advantage of 10 walks and four Heritage Christian errors to post a 15-2 win over the Eagles April 26 at C-S Jr./Sr. High School.
Tyler Smith led the offensive attack with two hits and four runs batted in.
Lincoln Dzwik battled through control issues to earn the win. He gave up just one hit, but walked four, hit four batters and threw four wild pitches with four strikeouts in four innings of work.

Strong start lifts Panthers to win over Mendon

A four-run first inning got the Climax-Scotts varsity baseball team off to a strong start and the Panthers held off Mendon 7-5 April 25 at Mendon.
Carter Dzwik and Ben Crocker each had two hits including a double and two RBI to pace C-S’ eight-hit attack.
Starting and winning pitcher Gavin Eyre pitched the first four innings and allowed two hits and four walks with six strikeouts. Carter Dzwik followed with three innings of strong relief, striking out six Hornets and giving up three hits and one walk.

Strong pitching lifts Panthers over Bellevue

Four pitchers combined on a two-hitter, helping the Climax-Scotts varsity baseball team to a 10-1 win over Bellevue April 23 at Climax-Scotts High School.
Starting pitcher Logan Gilbert pitched the first three innings and allowed one hit with six strikeouts to earn the win. Gavin Eyre (0 hits and two strikeouts in one inning), Jacob Sheets (one hit and one strikeout in two innings) and Carter Dzwik (0 hits and three strikeouts in one inning) all had strong outings in relief.
C-S received three hits and two RBI from Ben Crocker and Carter Dzwik.

The Climax-Scotts JV baseball team entered the win column for the first time this year with a 12-1 win over Tekonsha April 22 at C-S Jr./Sr. High School.
Three C-S pitchers combined to allow just one hit over five innings.
Starting pitcher Ben Nelson earned the win for the Panthers, now 1-2. Nelson pitched three innings, allowing one hit with six strikeouts.
Hunter Piper and Kai Brown pitched one hitless inning each.
Ben Nelson, who had three hits including a double, drove in six runs to lead the Panthers.
