Men’s track team claims
2nd straight West Division
championship; women finish 4th
A strong team effort and 15 top three finishes helped the Climax-Scotts mens track team to the schools’ second straight SCAA West Division championship May 14 at Colon.
The Panther men totaled 169 points, just ahead of former SJV rivals Mendon, which finished with 167 points.
The C-S women finished in fourth place with 78 points. Athens won the womens event with 155 points.
C-S coach Dave Lodes said he pulled some athletes out of some relay events so they could participate in individual events in an attempt to secure more points and the Panther athletes responded with some impressive performances. Even though the 4x100, 4x200, 4x200 and 4x800-meter relay teams had different runners, they still did well, finishing second, first, third and third respectively.
“The kids ran in some events they might not normally do to get us points. It was a great team effort,” said the Panther coach.
First place finishes for the men came from Chase VanMiddlesworth, in the 200-meter dash (23.81), the 4x200-meter relay team consisting of Jordan Grove, Jackson Bagwell, Chase VanMiddlesworth, Josh Walman (1:36:53.02), Ryan Pejakovich in the shot put (42’ 3), and Miles Shannon in the high jump (6’ 0).
The Lady Panthers had six top three finishes.
Paige Amos, in the 100-meter dash (13.67 personal record) and 200-meter dash (28.53), Addy Reeves, in the 400-meter dash (1:10.19 season record) and long jump (14’2”), and the 4x200-meter relay team consisting of Paige Amos, Sophie Braithwaite, Lillie Edwards, Annabelle Edwards (15:56.15), all earned second place finishes for C-S.
