G-A tennis team falls to Harper Creek


The Galesburg-Augusta tennis team managed just one win in a 7-1 loss to Battle Creek Harper Creek May 13.

Karlee Nigg, at No. 2 singles, secured the lone win for G-A, 6-2, 2-6, 10-7.

Kalamazoo Christian tops G-A, 8-0


The Galesburg-Augusta tennis team suffered an 8-0 loss to a very strong Kalamazoo Christian team May 8 at G-A High School.

While G-A lost all four singles matches, Karlee Nigg, at No. 2 singles, pushed her opponent in the second match before losing 4-6.

G-A was also scheduled to compete in the SAC Tournament May 9, however because the first round was cancelled and only the top four seeds in each flight participated May 10, and G-A did not have anyone in
the top 4, the Rams did not have any participants.

Lady Rams have 1 event champion, men
enjoy 5 top 3 finishes at Gobles Invite


Jaidyn Klimp won one event and placed second in three others to lead the Galesburg-Augusta womens track team at the Gobles Little Guys Invite May 10.

The G-A men’s track team enjoyed five top five finishes.

Saugatuck won both events, with the men totaling 81 points and the women 134 points.

The G-A women placed sixth in the 17-team event with 42 points and the Ram boys finished in fifth place with 61 points out of 17 teams.

Klimp won the long jump with a distance of 15’0.25”. The G-A junior settled for second place finishes in the 200-meter dash with a season record time of 27.42, the 400-meter dash with a personal record time of 59.43, and the high jump with a personal record height of 5’2”.

John Klimp, with a season record time of 53.10 in the 400-meter dash, and a throw of 42’2” in the shot put, earned a pair of second place finishes to lead the men.

Third place finishes for G-A took place in the 800-meter run where Landon Bouchard posted a personal record time of 2:08.74, the 3200-meter run, where Carter Stevents finished with a season record time of 10:50.22, and the 4x200-meter relay, where Levi Born, Adam Hubbard, Ben Smeltzer and Klimp teamed up with a time of 1:37.51.

G-A athletes will be aiming to qualify for the Division 3 State Finals at the regionals May 17 at Hillsdale.

The top two finishers in each event and athletes who meet a qualifying standard qualify for the state finals.

Two setbacks for G-A softball team;
cross river rivalry game at C-S approaching


The Galesburg-Augusta varsity softball team suffered two setbacks to Saugatuck May 8, lowering the teams’ record to 5-16.

G-A managed just four hits in a 11-0, five-inning loss in the first game and then watched Saugatuck erupt for 10 runs in the second inning in a 21-6, four-inning setback in the second game.

Rhyann Wilson, Caitlyn Valadez, Haven Bowsher, who had a double, and Kiya Dolph collected G-A’s hits in the first game.

Liliana Thompson pitched all five innings and suffered the loss after allowing 10 hits, nine earned runs and five walks with five strikeouts.

Rhyann Wilson recorded three of G-A’s seven hits in the second game.

Starting pitcher Breanna Keene received the loss after yielding 12 hits, 18 earned runs and walks, but she did strikeout three batters.

The Lady Rams will be busy leading up to the district tournaments, competing in the SAC Tournament May 18, at Loy Norrix May 21 for a doubleheader and at Climax-Scotts May 22 at 4 p.m. in the cross river rivalry game.

Consistency continues for G-A baseball team


Avoiding losing streaks has been just one of many key components in a very impressive season for the Galesburg-Augusta varsity baseball team this season.

After dropping a 9-7 decision to Saugatuck in the first game of a doubleheader May 8, the Rams rebounded with a 13-5 win in the second game.

G-A, now 15-3, has not lost back to back games yet this season. G-A followed each of its first two losses with three and two-game winning streaks respectively, after starting the season 9-0.

G-A struggled defensively in the first game loss to Saugatuck, committing six errors that led to five unearned runs.

Kameron Prince, with two RBI, accounted for two of G-A’s five hits.

Ethan Gibson suffered the loss in relief of starting pitcher Jaden Fawcett. Gibson allowed four hits and no earned runs with two walks and three strikeouts.

The Ram bats came to life in the second game when the team pounded out 11 hits.

Prince had a big game, driving in six runs with three hits including a double.

Nolan Brewer scattered four hits and did not allow a earned run or walk to go with nine strikeouts for the win.

G-A will play the annual cross river rivalry game at Climax-Scotts May 22 at 4 p.m.
