Jaidyn Klimp lone state finals
qualifier for G-A
Galesburg-Augusta junior Jaidyn Klimp was the lone State Finals qualifier for the Rams at the Division 3 Regionals hosted by Hillsdale High School.
Klimp qualified for the State Finals in the 200-meter dash with a second place finish and career best time of 26.98, and the 400-meter dash with a second place finish and time of 59.99, which was the second fastest time of her career.
Klimp battled through a disappointing long jump event when she had a regard foul by stepping over the board in the preliminaries, preventing her from an opportunity to advance to the state finals in that event. G-A coach Paul Schab said the coaching staff estimated Klimp’s jumps were between 16 and 17 feet, which would have put her in a position to either win or qualify for the state finals.
After finishing first in the 200-meter dash preliminaries with a personal record time of 26.91, Klimp settled for a second place finish with a time of 26.98, .96 seconds behind the first place finisher.
While she did not qualify for the state finals, G-A sophomore Caitlyn Valadez earned the first regional medal of her career with a fifth place finish in the shot put competition. Schab notes Valadez moved up from qualifying in ninth place in the preliminaries by throwing a second career best 31’8.50” in the finals to become a medalist.
The G-A girls finished 12th out of 15 teams with 23 points. Jackson Lumen Christi were regional champions with 90 points and Hillsdale won the mens event with 111 points.
The G-A boys finished 15th out of 15 teams with three points.
G-A junior Carter Stevens had G-A’s highest finish at the event, finishing seventh in the 1600-meter run with a personal record time of 4:50.49.
Landon Bouchard also had a personal record time of 2:04.31 for an eighth place finish in the 800-meter run, just .75 seconds away from qualifying for the state finals.
G-A senior John Klimp did not compete in the regionals due to a previous commitment.
