Climax-Scotts High School junior Gavin Eyre was selected to the Michigan High School Baseball Coaches Association Division 3 All-State Honorable Mention team as an infielder according to C-S baseball coach Kevin Langs.
The Panther junior was also voted Most Valuable Player of the SCAA.
Eyre joined four other members of the Climax-Scotts baseball team earning SCAA postseason recognition.
Eyre, Logan Gilbert and Ben Crocker were named to the SCAA first team and Carter Dzwik and Chandler Latimer were honorable mention for C-S, with three players from Battle Creek St. Phillip and two players from Calhoun Christian joining the team on a co-op arrangement.
Eyre was also a first team All District and first team All Region selection as an infielder.
The C-S junior batted a team high .462 (24-52) and knocked in 18 runs. He had seven doubles, walked a team leading 24 times and finished with a team leading .673 slugging percentage. He also had an .831 fielding percentage, committing 10 errors in 59 total fielding chances.
Eyre also saw significant time as a starting pitcher, finishing with a 4-5 record. He compiled a 2.82 ERA and opposing batters batted .141 off the Panther righthander. He struck out 68 batters and walked 29 over 34 and two-thirds innings pitched.
Gilbert finished the season batting .311 (23-74). He drove in 15 runs, had a .351 slugging percentage and stole a team leading 27 bases.
Gilbert led the team in wins on the mound, compiling a 7-1 record with a 2.14 ERA. Opponents batted .175 off him and he struck out 42 opponents and issued 11 walks.
The C-S infielder finished with an .833 fielding percentage, committing 10 errors in 60 fielding chances.
Crocker finished the season batting .315 (23-73) with a team leading four home runs and 34 RBI. He added six doubles, 10 stolen bases and finished with a .562 slugging percentage.
Crocker finished with 10 errors in 33 total fielding chances for a .697 fielding percentage.
Carter Dzwik made some nice contributions at the plate and on the mound for C-S.
The Battle Creek St. Philip sophomore batted .324 (22-68) with 22 RBI. He added nine stolen bases, finished with a .378 slugging percentage. and had a .440 on base percentage.
Lattimer was limited to just five games because of a knee injury he suffered very early in the season. The Calhoun Christian senior finished with a .444 average (4-9), knocked in five runs and walked four times for a .615 on base percentage.
He also caught 11 innings, throwing out two of four base runners attempting to steal. He finished with a .957 fielding percentage, committing one error in 23 total fielding chances to go with three assists.
C-S completed the season with a 20-6 record, however the school enjoyed a second straight 20-win season and won the SCAA West Division championship for the fourth straight year.
Talbert was also named All-District and All-City.
Rylee Altman was named All-League honorable mention, All-City and All-District, Makenzee Grimm was named All-League honorable mention and All-City and Holly Talbert was named All-League honorable mention, All-City honorable mention and All-District.
Hailey Talbert batted .419 (26-62) and drove in a team high 31 runs. She added seven doubles, one triple, scored 28 runs, finished with a .565 slugging percentage and a .589 on base percentage over 24 games played.
The C-S senior finished with a .947 fielding percentage behind the plate, committing eight errors in 151 total chances.
Altman finished the season batting .409 (27-66) with 19 runs batted in. She stole 12 bases, had a team high 26 singles,walked 20 times and scored 29 runs. The Panther senior finished with a .424 slugging percentage and a .545 on base percentage.
Grimm finished with a .393 (24-61) batting average and drove in 18 runs. Grimm had a team high 19 stolen bases, had a .426 slugging percentage and finished with a .519 on base percentage. The senior finished with a .795 fielding percentage, committing 15 errors in 74 total chances.
Holly Talbert finished with a team high .457 batting average (32-70). She collected six doubles, five triples and had one home run for a .729 slugging percentage and .587 on base percentage. She walked a team high 21 times and stolen 17 bases.
The Panther sophomore finished with a .962 fielding percentage, commiting four errors in 105 total chances.
The Lady Panthers finished the season with a 12-12-1 record.
