‘Collateral Consequences of Juvenile Delinquencies’ discussed Aug. 15

The Youth Defense Project of the State Appellate Defender Office and the Michigan Appellate Assigned Counsel System continues its series of youth defense trainings with a presentation on “Collateral Consequences of Juvenile Delinquencies” online Thursday, August 15, from noon to 1 p.m. via Zoom.

The consequences of an adjudication in juvenile court can extend beyond the terms of the disposition. Whether it is financial aid, military service, immigration, or housing, it is important for attorneys to understand what impact an adjudication will have on the life of their client so they can properly advise them. SADO’s Josh Pease will present on these consequences.

Pease is the Youth Defense Project director at SADO where he has helped lead efforts to improve youth defense throughout Michigan. He has led and presented at numerous delinquency trainings, helped draft legislation and court rules, and been involved with youth defense initiatives with organizations such as MIDC and the Gault Center. He is also active with the State Bar of Michigan, volunteering with several committees and serving as an officer for both the Children’s Law Section and Family Law Section. Pease worked in private practice for nearly a decade before joining SADO in 2022.

This online training is restricted to defense attorneys and defense team members only. To register, visit www.sado.org and click on “events.” Anyone with questions may contact Josh Pease at jpease@ sado.org or 517-334-1205.
