From The August 8, 1924 Climax CrescentTRANSFORMER BURNS OUT
Owing to the heavy storms the transformer at Augusta, which furnishes Climax, burned out last week Wednesday afternoon at 1:30 throwing the Village out of current until late that evening when they were able to get a single phase transformer from Battle Creek and get it installed. This took care of lighting but not motors and it was not until late Friday before 440 3 phase power was restored.
The Crescent was printed in Galesburg Thursday through the courtesy of the Argus.
The lack of power was felt mostly by the Creamery and the Climax Packing Company where they lacked power for their refrigerators.
The Consumers Power Company did everything possible in an effort to restore power as soon as possible, there was no transformer of the right size available and it was necessary to hitch five transformers together. The new station at Augusta is now being constructed. The late storms did a great deal of damage in Kalamazoo, Battle Creek, Marshall and other places.
Climax Baseball
One of the best games of the season was pulled off last Sunday when Climax defeated the fast Clark Tractor team of Battle Creek 1-0. Not a score was made on either side up to the eighth inning when Clifford Pierce playing in place of Conrad who was hit by a pitched ball, made a single going to second on a sacrifice and stealing third, and got home on a passed ball by the catcher
In the past five games by the Climax team in which they have mixed with some good teams they have only allowed three scores. The game the Vicksburg boys rolled up so many scores must have had the effect of clearing up their system.
