After months of discussion, the Climax Township Board unanimously approved the purchase of a new first responder rescue fire truck for the Climax Township Fire Department at the Board’s regular meeting August 13.
The Township Board unanimously approved the motion to spend up to $147,500 for the cab and chassis and outfitted with the body, tank, pump and warning package. There is expected to be one discount available if the contract is signed by August 30, 2024 and there will be an additional T-Line Michigan Municipality discount.
The board then unanimously approved a motion to make a payment on the new fire truck up to $147,500 as necessary.
The 2025 Ford F-550 diesel cab and chassis will be purchased from Atchinson Ford in Belleville for $72,000.
The new rescue truck will be outfitted with a nine-foot polymer rescue body, tank, pump and warning package by T-Line Emergency Vehicles of Grand Ledge for $74,430.
Funding for the entire purchase will come out of the township board’s general fund.
The current rescue truck 1451 will be converted into a grass fire fighting rig and the current grass fire fighting truck that was on loan from the DNR at no cost, will be turned back over to the DNR.
Delivery of the new truck will be made 75 to 90 days after the cab and chassis is delivered to T-Line Emergency Vehicles.
The Township Board paused the rescue fire truck purchase discussion in May.
While the township board approved to send a letter of intent to purchase a 2024 F-550, 4-door, XL fire truck chassis for $70,145 from Lunghammer Ford of Owosso if ordered by April 15, contingent on the August fire millage proposal passing at its April 9 meeting, it was discovered the April 9 minutes the board approved May 14 did not show a motion was made to purchase the chassis. The Township Board determined at the May meeting with no mention of the board approving the
purchase of the truck in the approved minutes from the April meeting along with questions remaining about the dealer contract, the item was tabled until the August 13 meeting after the August 6 election when the fire millage proposal was passed by Climax Township voters.
The board rescinded a motion at the August 13 meeting that was made at the April board meeting to send a letter of intent to purchase a 2024 truck and chassis contingent of the fire millage passing in August.
Other items that were approved at the regular meeting include:
• The Township Board adopted a cemetery ordinance amendment to reflect a change that requires 72 hours in advance for a funeral and another change that reflects the addition of columbarium language.
• After having roof repairs and power washing performed, the Township Board approved a motion to hire Mulder Cleaning of Galesburg to have the Township Hall windows cleaned for up to $400.
