For a number of years City of Galesburg Mayor Linda Marble has heard city residents voice their opinion about the need for a financial institution in the city.
That need will soon be resolved when Consumers Credit Union is expected to open a new branch in Galesburg in April, 2025.
Consumers Credit Union Chief Marketing Officer Lynne Jarman-Johnson said Consumers Credit Union is planning to open a 1185 square foot office in Galesburg in April, 2025 at 84 West Michigan Avenue near the location where the PNC Bank was before the bank closed the branch. According to architectural drawings, the total site area is 24,338 square feet, with 46.3 percent open space, 4.9 percent building space and 48.8 percent pavement.
The old PNC Bank building was demolished.
“The city is so excited that a financial institution is coming to Galesburg. When we were drafting our Master Plan last year, a survey was sent to all of our residents asking them to list a few of the top wishes they had for our city. One of the top answers in the survey was that our city bring a financial institution into the city. And that has happened,” said Marble.
The Galesburg mayor said after PNC left the city a number of years ago it not only created a hardship for local residents but for city staff. “Now that Consumers Credit Union is moving to Galesburg, we have moved our accounts back to Galesburg, and we could not be happier,” adds the city mayor.
Consumers Credit Union President and CEO Scott Sylvester is equally excited about the opportunity for the credit union.
“We are thrilled to be opening an office in our Galesburg community. We’ve been serving our members since 1951 and we listen to the needs of our communities. Galesburg is home to our members and employees and there is an opportunity for us to bring banking back to Galesburg where other financial institutions pulled out. It’s a win win for everyone involved,” said Sylvester.
