C-S football, volleyball teams
swing into action next week
The Climax-Scotts varsity volleyball team will be the first fall athletic team to see action, participating in the Battle Creek St. Philip Tournament at Harper Creek August 24 at 8:30 a.m.
The C-S JV volleyball begins action August 27 at home against North Adams at 5:30 p.m., followed by the varsity contest.
After playing a scrimmage at Concord August 22, the Climax-Scotts varsity football team opens the new season August 29 at Grand Rapids NorthPointe at 7 p.m.
C-S, 10-1 overall last year, will be vying for its second straight SCAA conference championship after claiming the league title last year for the first time since 2016.
The varsity football team will play its first five games on the road, including a non-league game against Newberry at Gaylord St. Mary’s September 7 in a 1 p.m. matinee contest.
Another highlight will be the first regular season home game October 18 against former SJV rival Mendon since 2000. C-S defeated Mendon last year on the Hornets’ home field for the first time in 50 years.
Another big matchup will be September 13 when C-S faces defending 8-man Division 2 state champion Adrian Lenawee Christian on the road.
The Panthers also play a Saturday night contest against rival Battle Creek St. Philip at Post Field in Battle Creek September 28 at 7 p.m.
