During her acceptance speech, Worthy said she has always tried hard ‘to bring honor to being a prosecutor.’

Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy became the first female elected prosecutor to receive the William F. Delhey Award from the Prosecuting Attorneys Association of Michigan held at their annual conference on Mackinac Island Aug. 24. Worthy has been the first Black female elected Wayne County Prosecutor from 2004 until the present.

The William F. Delhey Award is the highest honor that can be given to a prosecution official for his or her significant contribution to the profession of prosecution and service to the people of our state. The award recognizes the integrity, lengthy service as a prosecutor, dedication to the profession of prosecution, being a resource for other prosecutors, and service on behalf of the Prosecuting Attorneys Association of Michigan (PAAM).

PAAM President J. Dee Brooks said, “It is a true honor to share in the recognition of Kym Worthy as the 2024 William F. Delhey Prosecution Service Award recipient. I have worked with Kym for nearly 30 years through our work with PAAM, and I can verify without question that Kym has been a fearless and ferocious advocate for the victims of crime. She is a law enforcement partner who consistently works to serve and protect her community.”

“This was an honor, to be sure. I am very proud of this award. I have tried hard to bring honor to being a prosecutor. A prosecutor is the gatekeeper to the criminal justice system and must always try to do what is right, just, and fair regardless of public opinion, personal, and professional consequence. I have never been the traditional prosecutor and am always looking for bigger, different, and better ways to dispense justice within the bounds of the law,” said Worthy.
