G-A varsity volleyball team continues
strong start to season
The Galesburg-Augusta varsity volleyball team continued its early season success by sweeping Parchment in three sets September 5, 25-8, 25-13, 25-16 at G-A High School.
G-A coach Jonica Klimp said aggressive serving and keeping errors to a minimum helped the Lady Rams earn the win in three games.
Senior Jaidyn Klimp is proving to be a power house all around, recording 14 kills to go with four aces, seven digs and two blocks to pace G-A.
Lilianna Thompson continues to be G-A’s biggest service threat, recording seven aces.
Suzanne Nichols contributed seven digs and 17 assists.
“The rest of the team round us out, sharing the stats pretty evenly, which is what will help us to keep winning games,” said Klimp, who saw her team win the season opener in three games as well over Comstock.

JV football team gets into win column
The Galesburg-Augusta JV football team entered the win column with a 36-20 win over Cassopolis on the road September 5.
G-A coach Les Brewer said the game offered a good opportunity for many younger players to receive some quality playing time.
Pat Armock threw two passing touchdowns, Greg Buckner had three rushing touchdowns and Alex Krugh and Jaxsen Ray scored their first high school touchdowns on pass receptions.
After a home game against Allegan September 12, the JVs will play at Schoolcraft September 19 at 6 p.m.

Landen Bouchard enjoyed his second straight top 10 finish of the season at the Centreville Invitational September 7.
Bouchard finished 10th out of a field of 123 runners with a time of 17:58.5, lowering his time from the season opening meet by nearly one minute (18:53.86).
Carter Sevens, with a time of 18:00 for a 12th place finish, also lowered his time by nearly a minute from the season opening meet (18:57.11).
Union City won the invite with 74 points, while G-A finished in 10th place with 230 points.
Sturgis won the womens run with 47 points. G-A did not have any participants in the race.
The G-A junior high mens cross country team finished 10th in the junior high run. Centreville won the race with 35 points.
Everett Finedell was the first Ram to finish, posting a time of 16:59.7 in 87th place.
G-A did not have enough runners to score as a team in the womens junior high race, however Sophia Dohm finished 23rd out of a field of 128 runners with a time of 15:01.1.
Sturgis won the womens junior high race with 18 points.

There were no Lady Rams that participated in the girls race, won by Grand Rapids Covenant Christian with 37 points.
G-A senior Landon Bouchard was the first Ram to cross the finish line, finishing eighth out of a field of 91 runners with a time of 18:53.86 and G-A senior was right behind him, finishing ninth with a time of 18:57.11.

Rams record first win

Galesburg-Augusta recorded its first win of the 2024 season and the first varsity win on New Maskill Field with a 51-6 rout of the Rangers from Cassopolis.
The Rams scored on all four of their possessions in the first quarter. Jonah Ranes scored on runs of 9 and 7 yards and Nolan Brewer had touchdown runs of 46 and 3 yards. Brewer’s second score was set up when Jeremiah Mann intercepted a Ranger pass and returned it to the Ranger 3-yard line.
Owen Pfeiffer added three extra point kicks and Justin Martin converted a two point conversion run giving the Rams a 29-0 lead at the end of the quarter.
Martin scored on the first play of the second period on an 11-yard run and Brewer passed to CJ Denard for the conversion points. Brewer got his third touchdown of the game on a 10-yard run. Pfeiffer added a point after kick, and finished the game going five-for-five. The Rams headed into the locker room with a 44-0 lead.
Cassopolis started the third quarter with possession at its own 33-yard line. Three plays later the Rangers were forced to punt and G-A took over at its own 24-yard line.
Eleven plays later CJ Denard would score on a 10-yard run to close out the quarter and the scoring for the Rams.
Galesburg-Augusta recorded its first win of the 2024 season and the first varsity win on New Maskill Field with a 51-6 rout of the Rangers from Cassopolis.

In the closing minutes of the game the Rangers would get their only score of the game. Lucas Williams connected with Cameron Stewart on a 45-yard pass giving Cassopolis a first down at the Rams 8-yard line. Williams then sprinted around left end untouched for the score. Ranes and Mann blocked the point after try kick and the game ended.
The G-A ground attack accounted for 333 yards. Martin led the attack with 98 yards, all in the first half. Denard collected 74 yards and Brewer had 73. Levi Born picked up 46 yards and Ranes had 39.
Brewer had a perfect night passing hitting on all 5 of his attempts for 95 yards. Martin had one catch for 38 yards, Born caught one pass for 33 yards, Mann had two catches for 21 yards and Denard caught one pass for the two point conversion.
The defense put up a stellar performance as they held the Rangers to 46 yards rushing and 45 yards passing. 53 of the 91 total yards Cassopolis totaled came on the final two plays of the game.
Leading tacklers for G-A were Ranes with 10, Dominic Corsi with 8 and Anakin Jordan with 7.
On Friday, September 13, the Rams will make the journey to Allegan to battle the Tigers. Game time is 7 p.m.
