Law school to conduct annual Red Mass

The University of Detroit Mercy School of Law invites the legal community to celebrate the 112th Annual Red Mass on Tuesday, Sept. 17, beginning at noon at Ss. Peter & Paul Jesuit Church, 438 Saint Antoine in Detroit.

Red Mass is an occasion for judges, attorneys, civic leaders and law students of all faiths to come together and pray for blessings and strength in the coming year's work.

This year’s Red Mass will be celebrated by Archbishop Allen H. Vigneron, Archdiocese of Detroit. Michigan Court of Appeals Judge Michael J. Riordan will lead the Renewal of the Lawyer’s Oath of Commitment.

Detroit Mercy Law’s annual Red Mass dates back to 1877, when Detroit College, as the university was then known, began its first year with a Mass at Ss. Peter and Paul Jesuit Church.
