Wayne Law alum Ty Fahner dies, 81


The Wayne Law community mourns the passing of Tyrone C. Fahner, an esteemed alumnus and 2019 Wall of Fame inductee, whose remarkable career left an indelible mark on the legal profession. Fahner was born in Detroit in 1942. He was a proud graduate of Wayne State University Law School, where he laid the foundation for a career characterized by public service, leadership, and unwavering integrity.

Fahner attended the University of Michigan for his undergraduate degree.

After law school, Fahner quickly ascended to prominence, serving as a federal prosecutor and later as the Attorney General of Illinois. In 1971, he earned his Master of Laws from the prosecution and defense program at the Northwestern University Law School. His fearless pursuit of justice, particularly during the Tylenol crisis of 1982, showcased his dedication to the safety and well-being of the public. His leadership at the prestigious law firm Mayer Brown further demonstrated his ability to navigate complex legal landscapes and lead with vision and integrity.

Wayne Law Dean Richard A. Bierschbach remarked, “Ty Fahner’s contributions to the legal profession and public service were extraordinary. His legacy as a prosecutor, attorney general, and law firm leader has inspired countless attorneys, and his commitment to justice remains a beacon for all of us. We are proud to call him one of our own.”

ACG Detroit to celebrate its 40th anniversary Oct. 18


ACG Detroit, a 400-member nonprofit business organization of M&A professionals focused on middle-market companies, is celebrating its 40th anniversary on Friday, October 18 from 6 p.m. to midnight at The Godfrey Hotel Detroit.

 “Much like the inspiring rebirth of the city of Detroit, our chapter has grown and evolved tremendously over the past four decades making this a milestone worth celebrating,” said event chairman Christopher Letts. “We look forward to welcoming our members, sponsors and guests at The Godfrey Hotel and raising a glass together for this momentous occasion.”

 The evening will begin with an extended happy hour on The Godfrey Hotel’s premier rooftop lounge offering 360-degree views of the city, river and Canada. The celebration will then transition to the hotel’s expansive ballroom where attendees will enjoy live music from retro cover band Mega 80’s, great food and drinks, and networking with outstanding company.
