‘Advanced Trial Training Program’ presented by FBA


The Eastern District of Michigan Bar Association and the Federal Bar Association, Eastern District of Michigan Chapter, in conjunction with the American College of Trial Lawyers will present an “Advanced Trial Training Program” on Tuesday, November 19, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Theodore Levin U.S. Courthouse, 231 W. Lafayette Blvd. in Detroit.

During this program, experienced trials lawyers will use a mock case file to present best practices for each phase of a trail from pre-trial preparation through closing argument. It will also focus on proven strategies to mitigate the occurrence of unplanned challenges that inevitably arise during a trial and provide recommendations to overcome those challenges.

Among the program’s speakers will be Martha Olijnyk, Powell Miller, Mike Turco, Linda Watson, William Horton, and Michael Pitt.

The cost for this full-day program is $99 for FBA members  and $175 for non-members  and guests. Lunch and a closing reception with colleagues and peers is included. To register, visit https://fbamich.org and click on “calendar.”

Levin Center to present award winner Oct. 22


The Carl Levin Center for Oversight and Democracy granted its 2024 Award for Excellence in Oversight Research to “Common Law Executive Privilege(s),” by Jonathan Shaub, Assistant Professor of Law at University of Kentucky’s Rosenberg College of Law. Chosen by a selection committee composed of law and political science oversight scholars and veteran practitioners, the award-winning paper emerged from a competitive field of excellent candidate papers. The award includes a $2,500 cash prize.

On Tuesday, October 22, Shaub will present his winning paper to the academic community online from 12:15 to 1:30 p.m. via Zoom. To register for the free online presentation, visit https://levin-center.org.

Women’s Bar Book Club to meet Nov. 5


The Women’s Bar Association (WBA), Oakland County region of the Women Lawyers Association of Michigan, will present its next Book Club online Tuesday, November 5, beginning at 6 p.m. via Zoom.

For the November meeting, the club will be discussing “The Perfect Nanny” by Leila Slimani.
