MDTC to conduct winter meeting in Novi

The Michigan Defense Trial Counsel (MDTC) will conduct its 2024 Winter Meeting, titled “Technology and AI — Maximizing Digital Resources in Legal Practice,” on Friday, Nov. 1, from 8 a.m. to 3:15 p.m. at the Sheraton Detroit Novi, 21111 Haggerty Road in Novi.

The program schedule will include:

• 9 to 9:45 a.m.—Insurance Defense, with Kaitlyn Cramer, Novara, Tesija, Catenacci, McDonald, & Baas PLLC; Christen Fox, Ruggirello, Velardo, Burke, Reizen, & Fox PC; Renee Townsend, Burger, Meyer, & D’Angelo; and moderator Bryan Padgett, Zausmer PC.

• 9:45 to 10:30 a.m.—In-House Panel - Insurance and Business, with James R. Bradley, Progressive Michigan Insurance Company; Jessica Mills, State Farm Mutual Automobile Insurance Co.; Michael Kramer, Kramer, Corbett, Harding, & Dombrowski; and moderator Alicia LaBeau, The Auto Club Group.

• 10:45 to 11:30 a.m.—Using Technology in Trial Practice, with Fred J. Fresard, Klein, Thomas, Lee, & Fresard; and Shelly L. Griffin, Plunkett Cooney.

• 1 to 1:30 p.m.—AI and Cybersecurity, with Jennifer A. Dukarski, Butzel Long PC.

• 1:30 to 2:15 p.m.—E-Discovery Dos and Don’t’s - Lessons to be learned in E-Discovery, with B. Jay Yelton III, Warner Norcross + Judd LLP.

• 2:30 to 3:15 p.m.—Judicial Panel: Technology in Law, with Kent County Circuit Court Judge Curt A. Benson, Oakland?County Circuit Court Judge Jacob Cunningham, Michigan Court of Appeals Judge Michelle Rick, Michigan Supreme Court Justice David F. Viviano, and moderator retired Judge David Groner.

During the luncheon, the MDTC/MAJ (Michigan Association for Justice) Respected Advocate Awards will be presented. The MDTC annually gives the award to a member of the plaintiff’s bar for the purpose of recognizing and honoring the individual’s history of successful representation of clients and adherence to the highest standards of ethics. The MAJ does the same annually for a defense practitioner to promote mutual respect and civility.  This year’s honors go to Ronald K. Weiner of Lipton Law and Jenna Wright Greenman of Kitch Attorneys & Counselors PC. Also during the luncheon, the Best Article Award will be presented to Earnest P. Chiodo of Ernest Chiodo PC.

Cost for the Winter Meeting is $235 for MDTC members, $300 for non-members,  $75 for lunch-only, and a new member special of $285 which includes the cost of meeting and one year of membership.
