G-A’s Landen Bouchard breaks
school record again, Carter Stevens
sets personal record also at state finals
While both Galesburg-Augusta High School seniors Landen Bouchard and Carter Stevens didn’t earn an all-state medal, both cross country runners set personal records at the Lower Peninsula Division 3 State Finals November 2 at Michigan International Speedway.
The top 30 finishers earn all-state medals.
Bouchard finished 68th out of a field of 265 runners and broke his own school record with a time of 16:48.3. He finished the season breaking the school record five times, posting previous school record times of 17:29.86, 17:16.1, 17:06.28 and 17:03.88.
Stevens finished 97th with a personal record time of 17:03.1. His previous personal record time of 17:09.17 was set at the regionals October 26.
According to G-A Athletic Director Mike Woodard Bouchard and Stevens now own the two fastest times for mens cross country at G-A.
Congratulations to both runners on a fine season.
Adjustments, quick start helps lady
Rams advance into district semifinals
By Bruce Rolfe
A quick start in all three games while making adjustments along the way helped the Galesburg-Augusta varsity volleyball team to a three game sweep over Lawton, 25-10, 25-22, 25-17 in the first round of the district tournament at G-A High School November 4.
The winners of the G-A-Kalamazoo Christian and Kalamazoo Hackett-Decatur semifinal games Wednesday will square off in the district championship match November 7 at 7 p.m. at G-A High School.
Outside of an early 1-1 tie in the first and second games, G-A led all of the way in all three games.
G-A coach Jonica Klimp said her team focused on strong serving, which led to quick starts in all three games.
The Lady Ram coach was also pleased how her team made adjustments when Lawton attempted to frustrate Ram leading killer Jaidyn Klimp with blocking schemes at the net.
“Our team as a whole, did a really good job. They shut down Jaidyn. Pretty early they were triple blocking her. So the other girls stepped up. They were able to close it for us and step up and be the big hitters we needed. So that was exciting,” said the Lady Ram coach.
With Megan Ranes serving, G-A broke a 1-1 tie in the first game and went on a 9-0 run to move in front 10-1.
After moving ahead 14-4, the Lady Rams never let the lead go below double figures.
While G-A enjoyed a handful of mini runs in the second game, the stingy Blue Devils remained close, pulling to within 20-17 and 24-22 before falling short, 25-22.
G-A started the third game strong also, marching out to a 9-3 lead before Lawton pulled to within 11-10.
G-A regrouped, building the lead to 24-16 before closing out the win a short time later.
Klimp finished with seven kills, five blocks and six digs, Suzanne Nichols had 17 assists, Lily Gilbert had a team high 11 digs and Megan Ranes had a team high seven aces.
