Wolverine Gas and Oil Corporation once again teamed up with a group of local churches, business owners and residents to deliver Thanksgiving meals to local families November 25.

Former Scotts Corner Café owners Mark and Bonnie Hanson, and current Scotts Lulu Café owners Lulu and Daniel Reyes, contacted Country Christian Evangelical Free Church in Scotts, the Climax and Scotts United Methodist Churches, Peace Community Church in Climax, Prairie Baptist
Church in Scotts, and Wakeshma Community Church for a list of families in the area that could use assistance with a Thanksgiving meal.

Wolverine Gas and Oil Corporation purchased the Thanksgiving meal items, including pies and 76 turkeys ordered by Pease Packing Corp.

Representatives from the churches met at Scotts Lulu’s Café November 25 where the Thanksgiving supplies were distributed and delivered to the local churches participating in the program.

Mark Hanson said a total of 76 meals were delivered, the highest total since the program started in 2019. There were 25 turkeys and meals delivered to the Scotts United Methodist Church food pantry where families later picked up the meals. Ten meals were distributed to the Country Christian Evangelical Free Church, 10 to Prairie Baptist Church, 20 to Wakeshma Community Church, five to Peace Community Church in Climax,  and six to the Climax United Methodist Church.

Representatives from the other participating churches delivered the meals to the families.

Richard Moritz, vice-president of the Wolverine Gas & Oil Land Division, approached the Hansons in 2019 about an opportunity to work with the former Scotts Corner Café owners, who contacted local churches to determine how many local families could use assistance Thanksgiving.
A total of 52 meals were distributed the first year, 72 meals were distributed in 2020, 75 in 2021, 60 in 2022 and 75 meals were distributed in 2023.
