The Climax-Scotts JV girls basketball team nearly overcame a 19-point fourth quarter deficit but fell short against Parchment 40-35 December 11 at C-S Jr./Sr. High School.

Parchment entered the fourth quarter with a 35-16 lead, however Kameryn Blair scored all 12 of her points in the fourth quarter to fuel an 18-5 fourth quarter burst for the Panthers, only to fall short.

Parchment led by a 9-3 count after one quarter and 23-8 at halftime.

Kyla Etheridge added 11 points for C-S, now 0-2.

C-S JV basketball team evens record

The Climax-Scotts JV boys basketball team evened its record at 2-2 with a 50-35 win over Calhoun Christian December 13 at Calhoun Christian.

Holding a slim 18-16 lead at halftime, C-S, behind 12 points from Mason Shannon,  outscored Calhoun Christian 22-9 in the third quarter for a 40-25 advantage entering the final quarter.

Shannon finished with 16 points, Dustin Crandall had 10 points and Ashton Heighton added eight points.

Postponements sideline boys basketball team

Two postponements kept the Climax-Scotts boys varsity basketball team without action for 14 days entering a scheduled home game December 17 against Lawton.

C-S’ scheduled December 5 game at Athens was postponed because of poor weather and has been rescheduled for December 20 at Athens.

A December 12 postponed game at Calhoun Christian has been rescheduled for January 27 at Calhoun Christian.

C-S stands at 0-3.

C-S girls hold off Calhoun Christian

Climax-Scotts High School junior Holly Talbert scored nine points in the fourth quarter to help the Panthers to a 35-33 win over Calhoun Christian on the road December 13.

The game was close throughout the contest, however C-S outscored the Cougars in each of the first two quarters for the difference.

C-S, 3-1 entering play December 18 at Delton-Kellogg, led by a 9-7 count after one quarter and enjoyed a 19-14 halftime advantage.

The C-S offense stalled in the third quarter when Calhoun Christian cut the Lady Panther lead to 24-22 entering the final quarter.

Talbert, behind a 6-for-13 shooting effort from the floor, finished with a game high 14 points to go with seven rebounds and three steals. Adalynn Reeves had 10 points, seven rebounds and two assists.

Strong Defense Lifts Lady Panthers To Win Over Parchment

The Climax-Scotts girls varsity basketball team relied on strong defense and a good start to register a 38-16 win over Parchment December 11 at C-S Jr./Sr. High School.

The Lady Panthers held the visitors to single digit scoring in each quarter.

C-S, behind seven points from Holly Talbert, raced out to a 16-5 lead after one quarter.

C-S expanded the lead to 15 points (23-8) at halftime and took a 31-10 lead into the fourth quarter.

Kendal Reitz, behind a 5-for-7 performance from the floor, led C-S in scoring with 11 points. She added six steals. Annabelle Edwards added 10 points to go with eight rebounds and Adalynn Reeves had 13 rebounds.

C-S shot 45 percent (14-31) from the floor and made 10-of-13 free throws.

C-S-M claims 13 top 4 finishes
at Gull Lake JV Tournament

The Climax-Scotts-Martin JV wrestling team claimed 13 top four finishes at the Gull Lake JV Round Robin Tournament December 14.

Kaden Godbee (JV 129-131-pound weight class), Cooper Dinse (JV 232-255) and Brayan Simbron (JV 266-272), with 3-0 records all placed first.

Earning second place finishes for C-S-M was Nate Arnett (JV 122-124), with a 2-1 record, JV 149-155 Michael Chilel-Chun (JV 149-155), with a 2-1 record, JV 162-171 Easton VanMiddlesworth (JV 162-171), with a 2-1 record, and JV 171-182 Johnathan Collver (JV 171-182) with a 2-1 record.

There were five third place finishers for C-S-M.

Bryce Birkam (JV 142-148), Alexander Kasdorf (JV 155-158), Dean Parks (JV 161-169), Ethan Sage (JV 189-194), and Cole Birkam (JV 211-236) all finished with 1-2 records for third place finishes.

Gabryel Anaya (JV 160-163) placed fourth with an 0-3 record.

The Climax-Scotts-Martin co-op wrestling team settled for a second place finish at the 18-team tournament Gull Lake Invitational December 14.

C-S-M finished with 226 points, 3.5 points behind first place finishing Plainwell (230.5).

C-S-M had 14 wrestlers place at the event.

C-S-M had the most pins (34) in the least amount of time (74:47) ahead of Plainwell’s 28 pins in 49:40. C-S-M also recorded the most technical falls (39) in 91:08, and most total match points (420).

Jayce Ritchie (138-pound weight class), and Haylen Buell (150), with 3-1 records, Jackson Bagwell (157), with a 4-1 record and Malcolm Smith (190), with a 4-0 record, all earned second place finishes.

Smith finished with a 4-0 record but lost in the first place match on a disqualification.

Jakub Tomyslak (165) placed third with a 4-1 record, Matthew Holmes (150), Cole Reitz (132), and Jacinto Lopez (106) all finished fourth with 3-2 records, Seth Torris (144), with a 4-1 record, Urijah Joosberns (113), with a 3-1 record, and Sam Bleeker (285), with a 2-1 record, all placed fifth, Logan Curry (144), with a 3-2 record, placed seventh, Gixer Blair (157), with a 3-2 record, finished ninth and Jaques Porlier (120), with an 0-4 record and a bye, finished 11th.

C-S senior Logan Gilbert did not wrestle to rest a knee injury he suffered at the Grappler Gold Invite at Lowell December 7.
