G-A JV girls basketball team
wins third straight


The Galesburg-August girls JV basketball team entered the Christmas break with a three-game winning streak after defeating Martin 32-14 December 19 and St. Joseph Our Lady of the Lakes 39-15 two days earlier.

G-A, 3-1, was led by Lexi Coburn’s 10 points. Claire Callender added nine points.

G-A coach Dontrell Bowden said the entire team enjoyed a strong game.

Kayla Bortolussi scored 17 points in a 39-15 win over St. Joseph Our Lady of the Lakes, however every player on the team scored in the game.


Big start helps to 65-48 win over Eau Claire


A big first quarter that saw four different Rams score, helped the Galesburg-Augusta boys varsity basketball team to a 65-48 win over Eau Claire December 17 on the road.

G-A, 4-2 entering play December 20, raced out to a 24-9 lead after one quarter behind seven points from Giovonni Evans, six points from C.J. Benard and Jeremiah Mann and five points from Ethan Thomas.

Eau Claire cut into the Ram lead in the second quarter, pulling to within 38-26, however the Rams stepped up their defense in the third quarter and outscored the home team 12-9 to take a 50-35 into the fourth quarter.

G-A coach Brian Dolph enjoyed balanced scoring as three Rams scored in double figures. Jeremiah Mann led the way with 19 points, C.J. Benard scored 12 points, Giovonni Evans added 11 points and Ethan Thomas chipped in with eight points.

Nolan Brewer had nine rebounds and Evans had four assists to go with five steals and six boards.

While the Rams committed 24 turnovers, G-A handed out 14 assists and came up with 22 steals.

G-A shot 41 percent (26-62) overall from the floor including a 3-for-18 effort from the three-point line.

G-A wrestling team downs Fennville


The Galesburg-Augusta wrestling team benefitted from eight Fennville forfeits, helping the team to a 60-18 win over the Blackhawks December 18 at Parchment.

Robert Cain (144-pound weight class), with a pin in 4:01 and Caitlyn Valadez (190) with a pin in 23 seconds, won head to head bouts for G-A, while Landon Reed (106), Owen Cowles (113), Hunter Kendall (126), Colton Robertson (132), Gregory Buckner (138), Alexis Thomas (150), Jonah Ranes (175) and Brady Towery (285) all won by forfeits.

G-A will participate in the Jim Wade Family Tournament at Climax-Scotts December 27 at 9 a.m.

G-A JVs down Eau Claire


The Galesburg-Augusta JV boys basketball team improved to 4-0 with a 52-39 win over Eau Claire December 17 at Eau Claire.

Hunter Pritchard scored 23 points and Patrick Armock added 10 points to lead the Rams.


Lady Rams win 4th in a row

On Tuesday, Dec. 17th, the Galesburg-Augusta Lady Rams picked up their fourth win of the season by defeating St. Joseph Our Lady Of The Lake, 50-18.

Again, it was the defense that set the tone for the game as G-A forced eight first quarter turnovers and converted them into seven baskets. G-A scored 10 points before the visiting Lakers got on the board with a three-pointer and finished out the period with a 15-3 lead.

G-A, 4-1 entering play December 20, kept up the defensive pressure and shutout the Lakers (3-2), in the second quarter 17-0, giving the home team a 32-3 lead at halftime.

The Rams hit 56% from the floor on 15 of 27 shots and held St. Joe to 1 of 25 from the floor for 4%.

Jaidyn Klimp scored 15 points in the half. Freshman, Jenisyn Klimp, scored 8 points and Lili Thompson, Addi Born, Ellesa Callender and Rhyann Wilson each scored for the Rams.

In the third quarter the Lakers made 4 of 13 shots while the Rams cooled off hitting just 3 of 13 shots. Thompson scored twice, hitting a three-pointer and a two-pointer, Jaidyn Klimp had a put back basket and a free throw and Grace Gibson swished a pair of free throws.

The fourth quarter was very similar to the third. G-A made 4 of 8 shots with Wilson hitting a pair of short jumpers and Gibson and Klimp each scoring from the inside.  The Lakers made three baskets to go with a free throw.

Jaidyn Klimp led all scorers with 20 points. Jenisyn Klimp made 8 points and Wilson and Thompson each scored 7.

After the December 20 home game against Martin, G-A is off until after the winter break when the team travels to Schoolcraft on January 7th.

Rams Top Michigan Lutheran

On a rare Monday night game the Lady Rams forced 14 first half turnovers and cruised to a 30-12 halftime lead on the way to a 55-31 victory over Michigan Lutheran at G-A High School.

Grace Gibson made five steals, all leading to easy Ram baskets. Jaidyn Klimp had four steals and Lili Thompson had three of her own in the opening stanza.

G-A’s narrow 10-8 first quarter lead ballooned as they outscored the Titans 20-4 in the second quarter.

The Titans scored the first six points of the third quarter, cutting the Ram lead to 30-18. G-A responded with a 5-2 run and the teams played even up with the Rams leading 42-26 going into the final quarter.

The Titans were unable to generate any offense in the fourth period and the Rams outscored the visitors 13-5, claiming their third straight win.

The Rams (3-1), shot 42% from the field, making 21 of 50 shots. Eighteen of their baskets came from inside the paint. The three-pointers came from Gibson, Thompson and Hailee Themins with one apiece.

Jaidyn Klimp laid in thirteen baskets for 26 points to lead all scorers. Themins scored seven and Gibson and Rhyann Wilson each picked up five for the Rams.

G-A controlled the boards as Klimp grabbed 13 and Ellesa Callender picked up 5. Gibson and Klimp shared defensive honors as each of them had seven steals.
