Suspect arrested after domestic incident, pursuit, and threats in Leroy Twp.

On Wednesday, December 25, at approximately 7 p.m., the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office responded to a domestic disturbance complaint in the 10000 block of Running Deer Ridge, Leroy Township.

The complainant reported that a 33-year-old male suspect, a Leroy Township resident, had made credible threats to harm family members using firearms and explosive devices.

Upon investigation, deputies determined that the suspect had physically assaulted the complainant and fled the scene prior to their arrival. Witnesses also reported that the suspect had threatened to return with a firearm and explosives.

Shortly after deputies began conducting interviews, the suspect returned to the location and attempted to strike deputies with his vehicle before fleeing the scene. Deputies learned that the suspect may have been involved in an armed robbery earlier that day in Battle Creek.

A pursuit ensued as deputies attempted to stop the suspect’s vehicle. During the chase, which covered multiple jurisdictions, the suspect repeatedly attempted to strike pursuing officers. Deputies from various agencies continued the pursuit, ultimately disabling the suspect’s vehicle near 11 Mile Road and F Drive N in Emmett Township. The suspect’s vehicle left the roadway and became stuck in a field.

The suspect exited the vehicle but failed to comply with verbal commands. After attempts to de-escalate the situation, the suspect finally surrendered and was taken into custody without further incident.

There were no injuries to the suspect or deputies, although an Emmett Township Department of Public Safety patrol vehicle was damaged during the pursuit. The suspect was transported to the Calhoun County jail and is facing multiple felony charges related to this incident.

The Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by Michigan State Police, Emmett Township Department of Public Safety, Marshall Police Department, Huron Potawatomi Tribal Police Department, Lifecare Ambulance Service, and Calhoun County Consolidated Dispatch Authority.
