G-A wrestlers win one match,
drop two at homer tournament


The Galesburg-Augusta wrestling team posted a 1-2 record at the Caudill Invitational January 4.

G-A suffered a 54-24 loss to Centreville, defeated Homer 36-30, and lost to Jackson High School 71-18.

Jaxsen Ray (144-pound weight class) posted a 2-1 record on the day, winning by a pin and 17-2 technical fall and losing by a pin.

G-A will host Mendon January 13 at 6 p.m.

G-A’s Caitlyn Valadez places 5th at girls tournament


Galesburg-Augusta High School junior Caitlyn Valadez (190-pound weight class) placed fifth at the 33-team DeWitt girls wrestling tournament January 3.

After receiving an opening round bye, Valadez, who posted a 4-2 record on the day, dropped her first match by a pin. She rebounded to win her next three matches by pins before losing by a pin. The G-A junior responded with a win by a pin in 3:21 in the fifth place match.

G-A’s Ryleigh Ruiz (110) also participated in the tournament but was defeated twice by pins.

G-A wrestling team drops 3, wins 2 at
Jim Wade Family Classic in December


The Galesburg-Augusta wrestling team suffered three setbacks and won two matches at the Jim Wade Family Classic December 27 at C-S Jr./Sr. High School.

G-A fell to Constantine (45-27), Climax-Scotts-Martin co-op wrestling team (65-12) and Olivet (54-29), however the team defeated the Climax-Scotts-Martin co-op B team 43-42 on overtime criteria and Quincy, 36-24.
Invidual scores were not available for the C-S-M B team and Quincy matches, however Lincoln Hawes (120-pound weight class), Colton Robertson (132), Owen Cowles (113), and Aaron Wiliks-Millard (138) all posted 2-1 records against Constantine, C-S-M and Olivet.
