G-A senior is school record holder for points in a career
By Dale Martin
On Monday, January 27th, Galesburg-Augusta senior Jaidyn Klimp entered the contest with Gobles needing 18 points to reach the 1000 point mark.
Averaging 19.9 points per game this season, it seemed possible that she had a chance to reach her goal. Standing in the way were the Tigers, sporting an 8-3 record so it was evident that she would have to have her game face on.
At the end of the first quarter she managed just one basket and a free throw. She scored three baskets in the paint and added 4 free throws, giving her 13 points at halftime.
In the third quarter she was held to one basket and entered the fourth quarter needing three more points. She wasted little time going on a tear making 4 steals in the first minute and converting them into layups, pushing her over the century mark. Her 18 point outburst, six baskets and 6 of 8 free throws, gave her 33 for the night.
“Reaching the 1000 points means a ton to me. It shows my consistency and commitment to this sport throughout all the years. Knowing each bucket was earned over hard work and dedication. The points were from a bunch of helping hands, I wouldn’t have made it this far without all my teammates and coaches,” said Klimp after the game.
Jaidyn passed Vickie Born DeLeon, who scored 975 points for G-A during her career from 1977 to 1980.
To round out her game Jaidyn made 13 steals and hauled down 11 rebounds and just as important, the Rams came from behind to record their 8th win of the season, 61-57.
