A Farm Bureau co-op employee at the Climax store is looking forward to a new opportunity as branch manager at the local co-op.
Josh Mack, who has been working in sales at the Climax Farm Bureau co-op store for three years, officially was named as manager at the local Farm Bureau co-op store January 1, after long time manager Ron Balowski retired January 31.
Balowski worked at the Climax Farm Bureau Co-op store for 28 years, including the last 10 years as manager.
Mack, a graduate of Union City High School, is a resident in Burlington Township.
Mack, who grew up on a small 300-acre family farm in the Burlington area, said he has always had an interest in agriculture. After taking agriculture related classes at Michigan State University and Kellogg Community College, he jumped at the opportunity to work at the Climax co-op store three years ago so he could remain in the agriculture industry.
The 20-year-old is now eager to take on the next opportunity as a store manager.
“I’ve been here for three years. I think our board has seen how hard of a worker I was and that’s why they gave me the opportunity. It means a lot to me,” said Mack.
While there may be some changes under his leadership, Mack said the day to day operations at the local co-op will pretty much be the same as it was when Balowski was the manager.
“There will probably be some upgrades that we will need to make, but that will be from wear and tear on stuff,” said Mack.
The new local co-op store manager said between Balowski training him the last few months, and already having knowledge about the business working in sales and with sprayers, he feels comfortable making the transition into the manager role.
Mack said he’s looking forward to getting to know the community and local customers.
“There’s a lot of good relationships that we build in a small community like this,” said Mack, who said he plans to continue to have the popular coffee table available where local residents have gathered for years.
