Detroit police officer arraigned in connection with fatal car crash in Macomb County

A Detroit police officer has been arraigned for allegedly causing the death of a 27-year-old man.

The Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office says Corey Siquan Jones, 28, allegedly drove through a red light last August 16 and was struck by a motorcyclist who was traveling lawfully through the green light.

Evan Newman died at the scene.

The Roseville Police Department presented the case to the prosecutor’s office on Feb. 12 and charges were authorized that same day.

Jones was charged with a moving violation causing death, a one-year misdemeanor.

Jones was arraigned last Friday in Roseville District Court. A probable cause conference is scheduled next month.
