Students star in courthouse competition
Students from high schools across Macomb County gathered at the county courthouse earlier this month to participate in a regional mock trial competition. The daylong event was presented by the Michigan Center for Civil Education and sponsored by the Macomb County Bar Foundation. Among those on hand for the event included (left to right) Richard Goodman, Jackson Goodman, Wes Goodman, Mallory Fiordellisi, Magistrate Mark McCoskey, Nanette Cortese, Steffani Russo, Jevonna Fudge, Sean Blume, Meghan Patero, Judge Michael Chupa, Grace Crivello, Deborah Hill, Eva Tkaczyk, Lauren Walker, Cheyenne Schnur, Timothy Mulligan, Latoya Willis, Erykah Howell-Stewart and Renee VanderHagen. The competition is designed to reenact much of what might take place in trial courts with student teams taking on the roles of attorneys and witnesses. Along with area judges, attorneys and other members of the legal community volunteer for the event in various capacities. Teams from Romeo and Richmond won the right to advance to the State Competition in Lansing.
