A large tree struck this house Pastor Noah Miller and his family live in on North Main Street in the Village of Climax during a powerful thunderstorm that went through the area March 30.
A powerful thunderstorm ripped through the Village of Climax and the surrounding area late last Sunday afternoon, causing damage to homes and property while leaving the village without power.
There were many downed power lines and uprooted trees, including some that landed on homes and other structures.
A portion of Cherry Street and North Church Street were closed because a large tree, utility pole and powerlines fell near the intersection.
Because North Church Street is a dead end street and a tree, utility pole, and power lines were down at the intersection of Cherry and North Church Street, homeowners at approximately 10 locations in the area faced a challenge driving a vehicle out of the area.
The intersection of Cherry and North Church Street was closed due to downed power lines and a utility pole and large tree that had fallen across Cherry Street.
Village of Climax DPW Manager T.J. Gibson said the DPW could not perform cleanup near the intersection until the area was safe and downed powerlines were removed.
Gibson said a Consumers Energy representative told him the estimated power restoration time would be in the evening March 31.
Numerous large limbs fell throughout the Village as well.
Noah Miller, who is pastor of the Peace Community Church on North Main Street, said he, his wife and five children were at the church preparing for church in the evening when the storm blasted through.
The family soon found out a large tree in the Village Park next to the house they rent, had fallen on the home, causing significant damage.
“The storm came through and we heard a snap and we looked out the window and my son Elijah says there’s a tree on the house,” said Miller.
Pastor Noah said it’s kind of ironic his message at the morning service was how God protects people.
“All glory to God. I know God really watched over us. We’re thankful,” said Pastor Noah.
Miller said the tree that fell on the home put a hole in the roof and there is structural damage on the first and second level, making the home unliveable. He said the family met with the landlord
Monday to determine a course of action. Miller said the family stayed at a local hotel Sunday night.
