New siren

A weather warning siren the Climax Village Council purchased last October was installed in the Climax Village Park April 9.

The weather warning siren was installed outside the fence that surrounds the water tower, on the northwest corner, just west of the basketball court.

The Climax Village Council approved the purchase for the used weather warning siren  at its regular meeting October 1 for $18,000 from West Shore Services.

The used federal AC/DC siren the Council approved to purchase comes with four new batteries that are used for backup. The warning siren will be hooked up to a local electrical source, but would still function if there is a loss of electricity with the battery backup. The warning siren has a 360 degree rotating head with a one-mile range, and carries a one year guarantee.

The unit comes with a new 50-foot class II wood pole with aluminum conduit, and necessary interconnection wiring between the siren components.

The unit will come equipped with a disconnect for underground or overhead electrical hookup.

The warning siren was expected to be hooked up April 14 week and active to use.

An older weather warning siren was installed near the village’s well house number 3 on the west side of the village in 2011. The siren stopped rotating in 2014 and eventually stopped working.
