Rams settle for split against Union City


The Galesburg-Augusta varsity baseball team dropped its first game of the season against Union City April 12 in a doubleheader at G-A High School.

The Rams took a 4-0 record into the second game of the twinbill after registering a 14-13 win in the first game, but dropped a 16-3 decision in the second game.

Ethan Gibson, with four hits and three RBI, and Jonah Ranes, with three hits and two RBI, led a 15-hit G-A attack in the first game.

Kameron Prince earned the win in relief with two and two-thirds innings pitched. He gave up four hits, four earned runs, walked four and struck out four.

The Rams were limited to just three hits in the second game.

Wes Hoffman suffered the loss, allowing nine hits and 10 earned runs with six walks and one strikeout.

A two-run fifth inning proved to be the difference for the Rams in a 7-5 win over Gobles in the first game of a doubleheader April 11 at Gobles.

G-A was leading Gobles 8-6 in the top of the fifth inning when the second game was stopped. It is not an official game and will be completed only if the game could have an impact on the final divisional standings.

Colson Blake, who had two RBI, Alex Krugh, who had a double and two RBI, Ashton Matrau, who had two doubles and Jaden Fawcett, each had two hits to pace G-A in the first game.

Fawcett was credited with the win on the mound, allowing seven hits and three earned runs across five innings. He struck out eight and did not issue a walk.

The Galesburg-August JV baseball team started the season with two losses at Union City April 12, 16-10 and 12-2, and two losses at home April 14, 20-13 and 16-0 to Climax-Scotts.

R.J. Kasten and Jace Stevenson each had a double and drove in three runs in the first game against C-S.

The Rams were held without a hit in the second game.

Union City sweeps G-A

Union City pulled away in the first game with a 13-run third inning.
Cayden Allie, who had a double and one RBI and Aiden Hill, who drove in one run, each had two hits for G-A in the opener.
G-A only managed two hits in the second game.
Colton Robertson, who had one of the two hits, stole four bases.
Robert Cain had the other Ram hit.

Lady Rams still searching for first win


Doubleheader losses to Gobles April 11 and Union City April 12  left the Galesburg-Augusta girls varsity softball team with a 2-4 record entering a home twinbill against Delton-Kellogg April 15.

With six hits, G-A’s scoring opportunities were limited to a few in a 18-2 loss in the first game against Union City April 12 at G-A High School.

Emily Coleman’s three hits including a double, led G-A at the plate.

Union City broke the second game open with an 11-run fourth inning and the Rams managed just five hits.

Gobles sweeps doubleheader

Gobles combined for 35 runs and 22 hits in a pair of wins over the Lady Rams April 11, 18-0 and 17-3 at Gobles.

The Tigers pushed 15 runs across in the second inning in the first game to extend a 3-0 lead to 18-0.

The Lady Rams were held without a hit.

G-A struggled at the plate in the second game as well, coming up with just one hit - a home run by Lilli Thompson.

Lady Rams tennis team drops first 2 matches


After three postponements because of poor weather, the Galesburg-Augusta girls tennis team finally got the season under way April 10 with an 8-0 loss to Kalamazoo Christian followed by a 6-1 loss to Leslie the following day at G-A.
Karlee Nigg, at No. 1 singles, earned the lone win for the Rams against Leslie, prevailing 6-2, 6-4.

Three G-A losses came by forfeits in doubles play.

Lauren Gates, at No. 2 singles, had a competitive match, falling 6-1, 6-4.

G-A track teams enjoy early season improvement



G-A’s Ellesa Callender and Audrey Dennis are pictured competing in the 100-meter hurdles competition April 14 at G-A High School.

Both the Galesburg-Augusta girls and boys track teams continue to see improvement in the early portion of the schedule with many personal and season records recorded by both teams.

The Lady Rams settled for a split while the boys dropped two matches in a double dual track meet at G-A High School April 14 against Delton-Kellogg and Constantine.

The girls defeated Delton-Kellogg, 67.5-51.5 but fell short to Constantine, 65.67-62.33. The Ram boys lost to Constantine 98-28, and to Delton-Kellogg 81-46.

The girls sported eight first place finishes, eight personal records and 12 season records and the boys had 21 personal records, 11 season records and two first place finishes.

G-A’s Jaidyn Klimp led the way for the girls, winning four events. The G-A senior won the 200-meter dash (21.67), 400-meter dash (1:02.22), high jump (season best 4’10”), and shot put (personal best 33’4”).

Other first place finishes for G-A came from Jenisyn Klimp in the 100-meter dash (personal record 13.43), the 4x100-meter relay team consisting of Holley Coburn, Addison Born, Audrey Dennis, and Hailey Eldridge with a time of 58.58, the 4x400-meter relay team composed of 1. Jenisyn Klimp, Kayla Bortolussi, Claire Callender and Ellesa Callender with a time of 4:48.22 and Ellesa Callendar in the discus with a throw of 75’8”.

G-A senior Levi Born, with a time of 25.66 in the 200-meters, and senior Carter Stevens, with a time of season best time of 11:39.42 in the 3200-meter run, earned G-A’s two first place finishes for the boys.

G-A track teams set 24 personal records at Bridgman Invite
 
The Galesburg-Augusta womens track team had eight top three finishes including four first place finishes helping the team to a third place finish and the Ram mens track team enjoyed six top three finishes, including two first place finishes, helping the team to a fourth place finish  at the Bridgman Invitational April 11.

The G-A women finished with 92 points, 12 points behind second place Bridgman and 31 behind first place finishing Buchanan.

The men finished with 59 points. Buchanan won the mens event with 120 points.

Overall, the G-A men and women each set 12 personal records.

 Jaidyn Klimp led the Lady Rams with three first place finishes and one second place finish. The G-A senior won the 200-meter dash with a time of 27.09, the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:00.84 and the long jump with a distance of 16’6”. She also finished second in the shot put with a personal record throw of 31’5”.

Jenisyn Klimp earned second place finishes in the 100-meter dash with a personal record time of 13.62 and 200-meter dash with a personal record time of 27.09.

Patrick Armock earned both first place finishes for the men, winning the discus competition with a personal record throw of 129’4”, and the 110-meter hurdles with a personal record time of 17.07.

Dontrell Bowden, with a personal record jump of 18’8.5” in the long jump, finished second.
