Losing skid reaches 6 games
for Lady Rams
A pair of losses to Battle Creek Pennfield April 17 at Pennfield left the Galesburg-Augusta varsity softball team mired in a six-game losing skid entering play April 22 against Martin.
G-A, now 2-6, dropped the first game to Pennfield 16-1 and suffered a 17-6 loss in the second game.
G-A couldn’t overcome a 12-run second inning by Pennfield in the first game.
The Lady Rams only accumulated four hits, including two from Brianna Keene, who had a double.
G-A struggled at the plate in the second game as well, managing four hits. Rhyann Wilson had three of G-A’s hits, and drove in four runs. She had a single, double and triple.
G-A’s scheduled home doubleheader against Delton-Kellogg April 15 was postponed to May 13.

Varsity baseball team takes on
Pennfield in doubleheader
The Galesburg-Augusta varsity baseball team dropped a tough 6-5 decision in 10 innings in the second game of a doubleheader April 17 at Pennfield to lower the teams’ record to 4-3.
Pennfield won the first game 9-3.
The Panthers won the extra inning game with a leadoff double and an RBI single in the bottom of the 10th inning.
The Rams took a 5-4 lead in the top of the seventh inning on an RBI single by Ashton Matrau, however Pennfield sent the game into extra innings on a two-out RBI single in the bottom of the seventh.
Matrau, who drove in one run, and Alex Krugh, who had one RBI, each had two hits for G-A.
Matrau suffered the loss in relief, pitching the final three innings and allowing two earned runs, one walk and he struck out four.
The Rams struck first in the second game with a two-run first inning, however Pennfield responded with a seven-run bottom half of the inning and went on to post a 9-3 win in the second game.
Ethan Gibson, Matrau, Nate Ewart, Jonah Rams, Wes Hoffman and Jaden Fawcett, who drove in one run, each collected one hit.
Pennfield only managed four hits but the Panthers took advantage of five walks and two errors that led to three unearned runs.
Starting pitcher Jaden Fawcett suffered the loss, pitching one-third of an inning and allowing five earned runs and two walks.
G-A’s scheduled doubleheader against Delton-Kellogg was postponed and will be made up May 13 at G-A High School.

G-A was held without a hit in a 6-0 loss in the first game and the Rams managed just three hits in a 5-3 loss in the second game.

Jaidyn Klimp piles up
four more first place finishes
Galesburg-Augusta High School senior Jaidyn Klimp recorded four more first place finishes, helping the Lady Rams to a second place finish at the Comstock Invite April 18.
The Lady Rams finished second with 113 points, while the G-A boys finished sixth with 53 points. Centreville won both the womens (135) and boys (201.5) events.
Klimp, who placed first in three events in a road meet April 16 against Martin and Kalamazoo Christian at Martin and won four events in a home April 14 meet, placed first in the 200-meter dash (27.38), 400-meter run (1:01.40), the high jump (5’0”) and long jump (15’03”).
Jenisyn Klimp recorded the other first place for G-A, posting a time of 13.55 in the 100-meter dash.
Senior Carter Stevens, with a season record time of 11:25.90 in the 3200-meter run, and senior Jeremiah Mann, with a season record height of 5’07” in the high jump, both placed second for the boys.

G-A Track Teams Win One, Lose One
Both the Galesburg-Augusta mens and womens track teams won one match and lost one match in a double dual April 14 at Martin.
The Lady Rams lost to Kalamazoo Christian 69-60 but defeated Martin, 66-65.
The men defeated Martin 76-42 and lost to Kalamazoo Christian 86-43.
G-A senior Jaidyn Klimp placed first in three events, winning the 200-meter dash (27.45), the 400-meter dash (1:02.74) and the shot put with a personal record throw of 34’5”.
Jenisyn Klimp, with a time of 13.92, won the 100-meter dash, Claire Callender, with a time of 2:58.64, won the 800-meter run, Ellesa Callender, with a throw of 85’2”, won the discus throw, and Kayla Bortolussi, with a personal record distance of 14”11.5”, won the long jump.
G-A senior Levi Born, with a season record time of 12.01, placed first in the 100-meter dash for the boys, Carter Stevens, with a personal record time of 2:17.01, won the 800-meter run, the 4 x 800-meter relay team consisting of Ashton Dingee, Jayden roe, Nick Stevens and Carter Stevens placed first with a time of 9:46.27, and Patrick Armock, with a throw of 118’0”, won the discus.
