Cermak died April 17 at the age of 77.
The Macomb County Probate Bar Association honored the MCPBA treasurer and longtime member with the following statement:
“As many of you know, Keith was not overly verbose, but his opinion was well respected and everyone listened when he spoke. He was a steadying hand to the board for the past eight years, but his friendship meant even more.
“The Macomb County Probate Bar Association cannot thank you enough for your contributions to the Association. You will be missed but never forgotten.”
Cermak played basketball in his youth and received a partial athletic scholarship to college. He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in 1969 and his Juris Doctorate in 1972 from Valparaiso.
In 1986, he started his own law firm.
Cermak was a member of the Macomb County Bar Association and had many roles in the MCBA, from serving on the board of directors to leading the association as president in 1990. He also served as a member of the MCBA Alternate Dispute Resolution Committee.
The association honored Cermak with its 2021-2022 Kimberly M. Cahill Civility Award.
Cermak was a member of the Macomb County Bar Foundation, serving on its board of directors from 1994-2004. He had served on the MCPBA board of directors since 2012 and held the position as association treasurer since 2016.
Cermak was a member of the Financial and Estate Planning Council of Macomb, Inc. and served as well as mediator with the State Court Administrative Office.
In addition, he was a member of the State Bar of Michigan’s Negligence Section along with the Probate and Trust Section.
Beyond the numerous associations Cermak worked closely with, he served on the ADR Advisory Committee as a case evaluator for the Macomb County Circuit Court and helped with the Legal Assistance Referral Program for the Airman Readiness Process (ARP), Service to Soldiers at Selfridge.
Cermak is survived by his wife, Maureen; children Col. Dr. Danielle (Chad Hilton) Cermak, Shawna (John Paul) Ramsey and Jessica (Lawrence Brooks Frederick) Cermak; grandchildren Isabel, Carter, Ryker and Rayna; brother, Craig Cermak and sister Deborah Cermak.
Cermak’s family will receive friends for a memorial visitation on Friday, May 2, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Wm. Sullivan & Son Funeral Homme, 8459 Hall Road (3 blocks East of Van Dyke), Utica.
A celebration of life service will be held on Saturday, May 3, at 11:00 a.m. at King of Kings Lutheran Church, 47500 Schoenherr Road, Shelby Township.
In lieu of flowers, the family said memorials would be appreciated to Care House - Mount Clemens, 131 Market St, Mt Clemens, MI 48043 or to the King of Kings Lutheran Church.
