A status conference in the Village of Climax murder case scheduled for April 17 was adjourned to May 15 at 9 a.m.
According to court documents, Adam Gerard Lyons, of 120 North Main Street, Climax, was charged with open murder for the alleged killing of Nichole Doerschler, two weapons and felony firearm charges and one charge of killing/torturing an animal in the third degree at an arraignment hearing October 29.
Kalamazoo County Chief Assistant Prosecuting Attorney Jeff Williams said in December the attorney for Lyons filed a notice of intent to seek an insanity defense.
The chief assistant prosecuting attorney said a report from the Center for Forensic Psychology (CFP) had not been received ahead of the scheduled April 17 status conference.
Williams said a status conference is generally a placeholder date set by the court to help the case stay on track. He adds in the Village of Climax homicide case, the court put a status conference on the calendar as a reminder to check in with the parties to see if the needed reports have been received. Since the reports were not received, another placeholder date was set.
Williams adds once all reports are received, he expects the next step will be to set the case for a jury trial.
