G-A gains split in homer tournament
The Galesburg-Augusta varsity baseball team earned a split at the Homer round robin tournament April 26.
G-A, now 7-7, lost to Homer 10-0 and rebounded with a 8-0 win over Constantine.
Ashton Matrau and Coleson Blake each had two hits in the loss to Homer.
Matrau suffered the loss on the mound.
Strong pitching by Jaden Fawcett led the Rams to an 8-0 win over Constantine in the second game.
Fawcett scattered three hits and did not give up a walk across six and two-thirds innings. He struck out seven.
Ethan Gibson completed the shutout with one-third inning of work.
Gibson, who had a double and drove in two runs, Alex Krugh, who drove in one run, Kameron Prince and Coleson Blake, all had two hits each.

Saugatuck Frustrates Rams Twice
The Galesburg-Augusta varsity baseball team suffered a pair of losses to Saugatuck April 24 at G-A High School.
G-A fell 6-3 in the first game and dropped a 13-1 decision in the nightcap.
The Rams responded to a 3-0 deficit entering the bottom of the fourth inning with two runs, but could not overtake Saugatuck in the opener.
Wes Hoffman’s two hits led G-A at the plate.
Kameron Prince took the loss in relief, allowing three hits and three earned runs in two and two-thirds innings pitched.
Starting pitcher Ashton Matrau, allowed two hits and three walks with three strikeouts over the first two and two-thirds innings pitched.
The Rams couldn’t overcome six errors in a 13-1 loss in the second game.
Only four of Saugatuck’s 13 runs were earned.
G-A only managed four hits.

Rams Sweep Martin
Strong pitching helped the Galesburg-Augusta varsity baseball team to a pair of wins over Martin April 22, snapping a three-game losing streak.
G-A blanked Martin 15-0 behind the strong pitching of Alex Krugh in the first game and recorded a 10-0 win in the second game behind a solid outing by Jaden Fawcett on the mound.
Krugh held Martin without a hit in three innings pitched and his teammates pushed 12 runs across in a big second inning.
Krugh walked one batter and had seven strikeouts.
Ethan Gibson, who drove in one run, and Jonah Ranes, who had a double and drove in two runs, each had two hits to pace the Rams at the plate.
Fawcett surrendered just three hits across five innings to record the win on the mound in the second game. He allowed one walk and struck out five Clippers.
Krugh had two hits and drove in one run for G-A at the plate.

The win was G-A’s first in seven games.

Landen Reed reached base four times with four walks.

G-A dropped a 15-1 decision to Homer and lost 10-4 to Constantine.
G-A only managed one hit in the loss to Homer, a lead off single by Rhyann Wilson in the bottom of the first inning.
Kaylee Bastian took the loss on the mound for the Rams.
Six G-A errors led to eight unearned runs in a 10-4 loss to Constantine in the second game of the round robin tournament.
Wilson had two of G-A’s six hits, including a double. Lilli Thompson drove in two runs.

Lady Rams End 9-Game Losing Streak
The Galesburg-Augusta varsity softball team salvaged a non-division doubleheader split with Saugatuck to end a nine-game losing streak April 24 at G-A High School.
Saugatuck won the first game 14-0 and the Rams responded with a 12-10 win in the second game.
After falling behind 9-6 entering the bottom of the sixth inning, the Lady Rams rallied for six runs and held off the visitors 12-10 in the second game to end the skid.
A six-run bottom of the sixth inning erased a 9-6 deficit and moved the Rams ahead for good.
Emily Coleman, who had a double and drove in three runs, pounded out three hits to lead G-A at the plate.
Rhyann Wilson added two hits and stole three bases.
Kaylee Bastian earned the win, scattering five hits across seven innings. She allowed five hits, one earned run, walked three and struck out two.
A two out single by Rhyann Wilson in the bottom of the third accounted for G-A’s only hit in the first game.
Lilli Thompson was tagged with the loss on the mound.

Softball, baseball district schedules released
The Lady Rams will play in the second game of the district tournament at Parchment at approximately noon against Kalamazoo Christian.
The winner advances to the district championship game at approximately 2:30 p.m.
The G-A baseball team will face Delton-Kellogg at approximately 12:30 p.m. May 31 in the second game of the day at Olivet.
The winner advances to the championship game at approximately 3 p.m.
Tickets must be purchased on GoFan or with credit/debit card at the events. The cost is $7.
Tennis team drops 3
The Galesburg-Augusta tennis team earned one point at the four-team Niles Brandywine Tournament April 26.
Niles Brandywine and Kalamazoo Christian both finished with 12 points and Kalamazoo Central finished with nine points.
G-A’s lone point came at No. 3 singles where Peyton Newton won her second match by a forfeit.

G-A had very little success against the highly competitive Irish, winning just one game in a two-set loss by Lauren Gates at No. 2 singles and two game wins in a two-set loss by Peyton Newton at No. 3 singles.

Buchanan, with 156 points, won the womens event and the Bucks also won the mens invite with 169 points.
Jaidyn Klimp led the way for the Lady Rams with four first place finishes.
The G-A senior won the 200-meter dash (27.14), the 400-meter run (1:03.08), the shot put (29’11.5”), and the high jump (4’11”).
Jenisyn Klimp, with a first place finish in the 100-meter dash (13.57) and Ellesa Callender, with a first place in the 300-meter hurdles (54.15), earned the other two first place finishes for G-A.
Patrick Armock, with a personal record time of 16.49, won the 110-meter hurdles for G-A’s only first place in the men’s event.

G-A Women’s Track Team Split, Men Lose 2
The Galesburg-Augusta girls track team enjoyed 11 personal records and five first place finishes, but settled for one win and one loss, while the boys lost twice in a SAC meet at G-A High School April 23.
The Lady Rams defeated Lawton 65-49 but lost to Schoolcraft 76-47.
The men lost to Schoolcraft 75-51 and dropped a 62-51 decision to Lawton.
G-A senior Jaidyn Klimp earned three first place finshes, while her sister Jenisyn Klimp won one event and helped a relay team to a first place finish to pace the women.
Jaidyn won the 200-meter dash with time of 27.63, the 400-meter run with a time of 1:04.00, and the high jump with a height of 5’2”. While she finished second in the shot put, her throw of 34’6” was a personal record.
Jenisyn Klimp won the long jump with a personal record distance of 14’10.5” and she joined Kayla Bortolussi, Claire Callender, and Ellesa Callender in a first place finishing effort in the 4x400-meter relay with a time of 4:46.40.
Jenisyn finished just .01 behind first place finishing Lillian Sniderman (13.41) of Schoolcraft in the 100-meter dash, posting a personal record time of 13.42.
Levi Born won the 100-meter dash with a season record time of 11.77 and the 200-meter dash with a personal record time of 24.09 to pace the men.
Senior Landon Bouchard recorded a personal record time of 53.80 to win the 400-meter run, Carter Stevens won the 1600-meter run with a season record time of 5:03.36 and Dontrell Bowden placed first in the long jump with a distance of 18’7”.
