ALA schedules ‘Book Swap’
All are welcome to bring a book (nothing related to the legal field) and a friend.
Books can be new or used—just something attendees are excited to share with others. Appetizers will be provided, and each attendee will receive a bookmark created from a local artist.
There is no cost to attend but registration is requested to reserve enough space. To register, visit https://aladetroit.org
Discussion to focus on victim rights
The Victim Advocates Lunch & Learn “Lettuce Talk” will take place online from noon to 1 p.m. via Zoom.
PAAM VSTU plans to offer victim rights related topics to prompt discussion. It also looks to this opportunity as a way to maintain community among victim advocates across Michigan.
This meeting is for AG advocates and prosecutor-based victim advocates only.
To register for the online discussion, visit https://michiganprosecutor.org and click on “Training Calendar.”
Contact Alex McGowan at McGowanA1@michigan.gov, Bill Dailey at DaileyB2@michigan.gov, or Jeannie Wernet at WernetJ@michigan.gov for additional information.
This training is supported by a Crime Victim Rights Award.
ABA board approves diversity resolution
The American Bar Association Board of Governors recently passed a resolution reaffirming the association’s commitment to ABA Goal III: Eliminate Bias and Enhance Diversity.
The resolution is part of the ABA’s ongoing work to promote full and equal participation in the association, the profession and the justice system by all people and to offer opportunities to all communities and advance the rule of law.
The resolution calls on the ABA to review the language describing its diversity, equity and inclusion activities to ensure consistency among the ABA’s various policies and programs and among the ABA’s various entities that seek to further Goal III in order to provide central direction regarding those policies and programs.
