Panel looks at

‘Settling an Auto Negligence Case with Mediation’

The Alternative Dispute Resolution Section of the State Bar of Michigan will present a webinar on “Settling an Auto Negligence Case with Mediation” Monday, June 2, noon to 1:30 p.m.

Auto negligence claims remain among the most commonly litigated personal injury matters in Michigan courts. While litigation can be costly and time-consuming, mediation presents an opportunity for meaningful resolution—when approached with the right strategies.

This 90-minute webinar will explore the practical and legal dynamics of mediating auto negligence cases under Michigan law. A panel of attorneys will offer insights into pre-mediation preparation, effective negotiation techniques, evaluating liability and damages, dealing with insurance adjusters, and overcoming common impasses. Panelists will also discuss recent trends in Michigan auto negligence law impacting settlement posture and mediation outcomes.

Topics include how to prepare your auto negligence case for successful mediation; understanding liability, comparative fault, and damages under Michigan law; the evolving role of insurance carriers in the mediation process; strategies for dealing with coverage disputes and liens; ethical considerations and managing client expectations; when (and how) to walk away.

The webinar will include dedicated time for audience Q&A.

Speaking on the panel will be Bobby Raitt, Raitt Law; Diane Hutcherson, American Automobile Association (AAA); Robbie Gaines, Gaines Law; Daniel Palmer, Kitch Law; and moderator Lisa W. Timmons,  arbitrator, mediator, and executive director of the Mediation Tribunal Association.

This program is designed for plaintiff and defense attorneys, claims professionals, mediators, and legal professionals involved in personal injury litigation.
