Macomb judge honored by MDTC

The Michigan Defense Trial Counsel awarded Macomb County Circuit Court Judge Richard Caretti the President’s Special Recognition Award on April 3at the Annual Past Presidents’ Reception in recognition of his  contributions to civil litigation.

Caretti joins a long list of distinguished prior recipients.

MDTC was established in 1979 and exists to facilitate a greater exchange of views and advance the interests of civil defense attorneys.

Caretti is the presiding Judge over the Civil and Criminal Divisions of the 16th Judicial Circuit Court and was appointed by the Supreme Court to serve as a Business Court Judge.

He was appointed to the Circuit Court bench in 2015 and has been elected to four six year terms.

He was previously selected as the 2022 sole recipient of the MDTC Award for Judicial Excellence.

Caretti graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree from Wayne State University in 1975 and graduated Magna Cum Laude from Detroit College of Law in 1979.

He was a police officer for the City of Detroit while he was attending college and law school.

Macomb County Circuit Court Chief Judge James Biernat said Caretti “has been dedicated to the development of the practice of law throughout his tenure on the bench.

“He works tirelessly to help attorneys develop a foundation and be a mentor as they engage in the practice of law.”
