Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office Crime Victim Rights Unit hosts event for crime survivors

The Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office Crime Victim Rights Unit hosted the “Kinship, Connecting & Healing” event recently to provide crucial support and resources to crime victims.

The event centered around the importance of having safe shelter and connections available to the victims and families of crime.

Crime victims and their families were first welcomed by Macomb County Prosecutor Peter J. Lucido, and then Heather Mormon, Chief of the Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office Crime Victim Rights Unit.

Presenters at the event included representatives from the Michigan Attorney General's Address Confidentiality Program (ACP), Family Youth Interventions Rapid Re-Housing Program, Macomb County Assistant Prosecutor Jeff Stone from Macomb Community Drug Courts Inc., Families Against Narcotics (FAN), and the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) Prevention Team.

The panel discussed how they help victims through the criminal justice system.

Other participants that provided information to victims included Live Right, Turning Point, Care House, Common Ground, the Macomb County Anti-Trafficking Task Force (MCAT), the Macomb Elder Justice Alliance, Macomb Senior Services, the Macomb Community Action Outreach Committee, Comprehensive Youth Services, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) Licensing Team, CARE of Southeastern Michigan, Michigan Rehabilitative Services, Crime Victim Compensation Fund, All Things Possible Wellness Center, and the Thaar Care Foundation.

The Crime Victims Rights Unit consists of crime victim advocates who are professionally trained to provide support and assistance to victims through the criminal justice system.

The unit provides comprehensive aid, including guidance on filing for Michigan Crime Victims Compensation, referrals to community resources, updates on case progress, courtroom support upon request, assistance with Victim Impact Statements, and help with understanding restitution procedures.
