Eight members of the Climax-Scotts boys track team qualified for the State Finals in eight events and four Lady Panthers qualified for the State Finals in five events at the regionals May 16 at Concord or through early qualifying.

The top two placers in each event qualify for the state finals, or athletes could qualify by meeting a qualifying standard or through early qualifying.

Senior Luke Lawrence qualified for the state finals in four events, senior Chase VanMiddlesworth qualified in three events, junior Gabe Walliczeck, senior Sam Bleeker and freshman Maximus Wurtzel qualified in two events and Jordan Grove, Elijah Bowron, and Rosendo Garcia qualified in one event.

Annabelle Edwards, Paige Amos and Sophie Braithwaite each qualified for the State Finals in three events and Holly Talbert qualified as a member of two relay teams.

Lawrence settled for a second place finish in the 110-meter hurdles but lowered his school record time to 15.14.

The Panther senior also qualified for the state finals in the 300-meter hurdles with a third place finish and time of 41.41.

Lawrence joined Jordan Grove, Chase VanMiddlesworth and Maximus Wurtzel with a second place finish in the 4x100-meter relay and time of 45.15 to qualify for the state finals.

Lawrence, Maximus Wurtzel, VanMiddlesworth and Elijah Bowron were regional champions in the 4x200-meter relay with a time of 1:33.57 to qualify for the state finals.

Besides qualifying for the state finals on the two relay teams, VanMiddlesworth finished second in the 200-meter dash to qualify for the state finals and recorded the second fastest time in school history with a personal record time of 22.62.

Bleeker, with a third place finish in the shot put (44”, 1.25”) and a sixth place finish in the discus (125’8.5”), qualified for the state finals in both events by meeting qualifying standard distances.

C-S coach Dave Lodes said Gabe Walliczeck injured his hand and did not throw at the regionals, however the C-S junior already qualified for the state finals in the event through early qualifying.

Walliczeck competed in the discus and finished first with a distance of 149’8” to qualify for the state finals.

Rosendo Garcia’s personal record height of 6’1” in high jump was good enough for a second place finish to qualify for the state finals.

While Sophie Braithwatie finished fourth in the 100-meter dash finals with a time of 13:00 she still qualified for the state finals by meeting a qualifying standard. Her time of 12.95 in the preliminaries set a new school record and was a personal record.

Braithwaite joined Paige Amos, Annabelle Edwards and Holly Talbert for a third place finish in the 4x200-meter relay with a time of 1:53.95 to qualify for the state finals.

The same quartet teamed up for a third place finish in the 4x100-meter relay with a time of 54.00, which also qualified the group for the state finals.

Paige Amos set a new school record with a personal record time of 26.92 and second place finish in the 200-meter dash to qualify for the state finals.
Amos also qualifies for the state finals as a member of the 4x100 and 4x200-meter relay teams.

Edwards’ leap of 5’0” in the high jump earned the C-S sophomore a second place finish that qualified her for the state finals.

She is also a member of the state qualifying 4x100 and 4x200-meter relay teams.
