Tennis team enjoys 1 win at regionals
The Galesburg-Augusta girls tennis team won one match at the Division 4 regionals at Hillsdale May 16.
G-A finished with one point in the 10-team regional. Kalamazoo Christian were regional champions with 27 points.
Charlotte Lockner and Jilaya Henry-Phillips, at No. 1 doubles, secured G-A’s only point by winning their first round match, 2-6, 6-4, 6-4.
They dropped the second round match to the eventual regional champions, Libby Reese and Lexie Thornhill of Jackson Lumen Christi, 6-0, 6-1.
Karlee Nigg, at No. 1 singles and Lauren Gates, at No. 2 singles, both advanced out of the first round with byes.

JV baseball team ends season with split
The Galesburg-Augusta JV baseball team finished the season with a 4-7 record after settling for a doubleheader split against Coloma May 19 at G-A High School.
The Rams scored two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to overcome a one-run deficit and post a 6-5 win in the first game and the team suffered a 13-3 loss in the second game.
RJ Kasten, who had two of G-A’s three hits, stole home to tie the game 5-5.
Kasten pitched all five innings, scattering four hits and allowing two earned runs and three walks to earn the win. He struck out nine batters.
G-A managed just two hits in the second game also but drew eight walks.
Kasten, with a double, and Brody Walling, with a single, had G-A’s hits.
Ayden Maine suffered the loss on the mound. He pitched three innings and allowed three hits and five earned runs with three walks and seven strikeouts.

Softball team looks to build
momentum for postseason
The Galesburg-Augusta varsity softball team went into the final week of the regular season looking to snap a seven game losing streak while building some momentum heading into the district tournament.
The Lady Rams took a 4-17 record into a doubleheader May 20 against Cassopolis.
G-A ends the regular season May 23 at Climax-Scotts in the Cross River Rivalry game and will begin district tournament play May 31 at Parchment against Comstock at noon.
Parchment and Comstock play in the other district tournament semifinal game May. 31 and the championship game will be played at 2 p.m.
The district champion advances to the regionals June 7 at Schoolcraft for a 10 a.m. clash against the Coloma district champion.
G-A struggled at the plate in a pair of setbacks in the SAC Tournament at G-A High School May 17.
The Lady Rams managed just four hits in a 9-3 loss to Lawton in the first game and then was no hit in a 15-0 loss to Fennville in the second game.
Rhyann Wilson’s two hits and two stolen bases led the Rams in the loss to Lawton.
G-A only reached base four times in the loss to Fennville on walks to Rhyann Wilson, Emily Coleman, and Aaralyn Gain and a hit batter (Lilli Thompson).
All 15 of Fennville’s runs were unearned due to seven G-A errors.

Plainwell Tops G-A Twice
While the Lady Rams reached double figure hit totals in both games of a doubleheader May 15, Plainwell took advantage of G-A’s fielding miscues in both games in 17-7 and 11-10 victories at G-A High School.
Rhyann Wilson had three hits to lead G-A at the plate in the first game.
Lilli Thompson was the loser on the mound, however Plainwell scored eight unearned runs off of three G-A errors.
Four G-A errors led to eight unearned runs for Plainwell in a 11-10 Ram loss in the second game.
Lilli Thompson, who had two doubles, had three hits, and BreAnna Keene, who had a home run with two hits, drove in five runs for the Lady Rams.

The Lady Rams totaled just five hits in both games in a pair of losses to Delton-Kellogg May 13 at G-A High School.
Rhyann Wilson recorded two of G-A’s three hits in an 18-1 loss in the first game.
The Lady Rams recorded just two hits in a 13-1 loss in the second game.

Baseball team captures 3rd division title
While the Galesburg-Augusta varsity baseball team suffered two losses in the SAC Tournament May 17, the team did enjoy one big accomplishment earlier in the week by earning a third straight SAC Central Division championship with a pair of wins over Delton-Kellogg May 13 at G-A High School.
G-A, 15-8 entering play May 20 against Cassopolis, managed just two hits in an 11-0 loss to Kalamazoo Christian May 17 in the first game of the SAC Tournament at Kalamazoo Christian and one hit in a 6-3 setback to South Haven in the second game.
Two G-A pitchers held Kalamazoo Christian to five hits in the first game, but nine walks and three Ram errors gave the Comets more scoring opportunities.
G-A managed just two hits, singles by Ashton Matrau and Kameron Prince.
Ethan Gibson suffered the loss on the mound, allowing five hits and five walks with one strikeout in three innings worked.
Ashton Matrau did not allow a hit but walked four batters with one strikeout.
A seventh inning single by Alex Krugh was G-A’s lone hit in the 6-3 loss to South Haven.

G-A Wins 3rd Straight SAC Central Division Title
Two wins over Delton-Kellogg gave G-A a 9-0 record in division play for the SAC Central Division championship. G-A had one incomplete game against Gobles earlier this year.
Alex Krugh and Ashton Matrau combined on a two hitter in a 10-2 win over Delton-Kellogg in the first game.
Krugh pitched the first four innings and was credited with the win. He allowed one hit, no runs, no walks and he struck out nine.
Matrau tossed one hit ball over the final three innings, allowing one walk and no runs while striking out seven.
Krugh, who drove in two runs, had two hits in the first game and Jaden Fawcett, who had a double and drove in two runs, also had a pair of hits.
Fawcett held Delton-Kellogg to just three hits and allowed one earned run over seven innings pitched in the second game. Fawcett struck out 10 and allowed two walks.
Matrau, who had a triple and drove in one run and Jonah Ranes, who had two RBI, each had two hits for G-A.

Lady Rams have 2 state qualifiers in track
Galesburg-Augusta High School senior Jaidyn Klimp qualified for the state finals in three events and freshman Kayla Bortolussi qualified in one event at the Division 3 Regionals at Bangor May 15.
There were no members of the G-A boys track team who qualified for the state finals.
G-A coach Paul Schab said Bortolussi is the first female freshman in the state to qualify for the State Finals in the long jump and Klimp is the first female in the state to qualify for the State Finals in three events.
The top two placers in each event at the regionals qualify for the State Finals, by meeting qualifying standards or through early qualifying.
Klimp, who already qualified for the State Finals in the long jump through early qualifying, met a qualifying standard in the high jump at the regionals in the high jump for a third place finish with a leap of 5’2”.
She also qualified for the state finals in the 400-meter run with a second place finish and time of 1:02.24.
The G-A senior just missed out on qualifying in the 200-meter dash, finishing fourth with a time of 27.71, just .08 behind the second place finisher.
Bortolussi, who set a personal record in the long jump preliminaries with a jump of 15’09.00”, duplicated the jump in the finals for a second place finish to qualify for the state finals.
Carter Stevens’ fourth place finish in the 1600-meter run (5:01.58) and a fourth place finish by the 4x800-meter relay team consisting of Ashton Dingee, Carter Stevens, Jayden Roe and Nick Stevens with a time of 9:34.08, had the highest finishes for the men.

Four Rams Participate in Southwest Michigan Throwers Classic
One member of the Galesburg-Augusta mens track team and three Lady Rams participated in the Southwest Michigan Throwers Classic at Schoolcraft’s Roy Davis Field May 12
The event is a tune up for discus and shot put throwers for the regionals. A total of 15 teams participated.
Patrick Armock placed 11th in the discus with a throw of 120’3”.
G-A senior Jaidyn Klimp and Caitlyn Valadez placed sixth and seventh in the shot put with throws of 31’7” and 29’3” respectively.
Ellesa Callender, with a throw of 94’5.5” placed sixth in the discus and Caitlyn Valadez placed 10th (83’1”).
