A former Macomb County sheriff deputy has been sentenced on charges related to an altercation that occurred while taking a juvenile into custody.
According to Prosecutor Peter Lucido, deputy sheriff Derek Reed was accused of slapping a juvenile he was taking to the Macomb County Juvenile Justice Center on Aug. 30, 2023.
After being charged with fourth-degree child abuse and willful failure to uphold the law, Reed pled guilty to willful failure to uphold the law, punishable by one-year in jail and/or a $1,000 fine, and assault and battery, punishable by 93 days in jail and/or a $500 fine.
Reed was sentenced in Monday in Macomb County Circuit Court by Judge Michael E. Servitto to 45 days in jail and 18 months probation.
