A St. Clair Shores man was sentenced recently after a Macomb County jury found him guilty of shooting his brother at a family reunion.
On Saturday, August 12, 2023, 49-year-old Kevin Deon Jones, shot his brother, Sidney Brooks, in the parking lot of Kennedy Park in Eastpointe.
Jones was charged with assault with intent to murder, weapons/firearm possession by a felon, weapons/ammunition possession by a felon, carrying a concealed weapon, three (3) counts of felony firearm, and assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder.
Last April, a jury found Jones guilty of assault to do great bodily harm less than murder and guilty as charged on all weapon-related counts.
Macomb County Circuit Court Judge Anthony Servitto sentenced Jones last week to 25 to 35 years on the assault to do great bodily harm less than murder charge. He was sentenced to fines and costs for the possession of firearm and ammunition by a felon. charges.
Jones was also sentenced to an additional five (5) years for the carrying a concealed weapon and felony firearm charges.
That sentence will be served consecutively to his sentence for assault to do great bodily harm less than murder. He was also found to be a Habitual Fourth Offender with a prior serious felony conviction.
"Bringing a gun to a family gathering and shooting someone is the kind of reckless violence that has no place in our communities. This sentence sends a clear message that those who endanger lives in Macomb County through gun violence will face serious consequences," said Macomb County Prosecutor Peter Lucido.
