C-S track team members recognized

While the high school track season was completed three weeks ago, some members from the Climax-Scotts boys track team were recognized by a website.

The website mixcspeedratings.com has C-S ranked No. 2 behind No. 1 Morrice in the Best Boys Throw Crews category and No. 22 in the Best Boys Hurdle Crews.

A brief summary of the scoring:

• An athlete qualifies by hitting a regional qualifying mark in an event.

• Those times from the athletes are converted into points.

• At a maximum of three athletes (with an exception for teams that have more athletes under the state qualifying mark), team scores are tallied up.

• Then team scores are added across all events of a certain area (hurdles, distance, etc.).

C-S had a score of 1133 in the discus and 1161 in the shot for a total score of 2294, while Morrice finished with a 1155 in the discus and 1176 in the shot for a total score of 2330.
Distances of 155’1”, recorded by C-S junior Gabe Walliczek, 128’0”, recorded by senior Sam Bleeker, and 114’2” recorded by junior Liam Lasala, helped C-S achieve the No. 2 ranking.

While C-S was not ranked in the website’s top 10 in the Best Boys Hurdle Crews category, the Panthers came in at No. 22.

C-S finished with a score of 541 in the 110-meter hurdles and 397 in the 300-meter hurdles for a total score of 938.

C-S senior Luke Lawrence, who set the school record in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 15.14 at the regionals and a time of 41.41 in the 300-meter hurdles at the regionals, was consistently C-S’ top finisher in both the 110 and 300-meter hurdles this season, however Eli DeWaal, Blake Buddemeier and Blake Wechsler enjoyed a strong season in the 110-meter hurdles and DeWaal, Buddmeier, Liam Lasala and Wechsler had some strong finishes in the 300-meter hurdles.
